To the UK members, ebac is known for their dehumidifiers. I found this link:

It appears we are going to have a British made washing machine this year!

They look quite smart, the link let's you tailor the options, seem they have the option of a 10 year warranty.

So looking forward to this

Mould (Mold)

I found it interesting how the add discusses tips on how to keep the machine from getting mould. So it's not just the USA with this problem. :-)

Exciting

There was a TV program on recently about this company, and to see this is very exciting, I wish them every success with this innovative approach to washing machine design

This looks great. I clicked on the design your own machine and I chose features like hot fill. App control so I could use my mobile with it and some other feature and it worked out that it would cost me 530 pounds. How cool would that be to have a machine built to what you really want in a machine. I hope this takes off I really do as it would be nice to see machines that are British built again.

This is a very welcome development. I'd like mine to have bio-prewash and a rapid advance timer please!

Fantastic

When I read about these last year, I was impressed, though now, I'm extremely impressed they're going to Launch.
They'll need to do some TV advertising though, and get some promotions going with the shops, as people won't have heard of the name before, but I'm sure when people realise they're made in Britain, they'll get huge amounts of sales.

Nice looking... but it reminds me of an Indesit blended with a Miele: I hope it takes after the latter for reliability :-)

They say that they're building them in partnerships with leading appliance manufacturers... and we know where those get thier stuff from... so now I'm left wondering: are these really made in Britain... or just assembled in Britain?

Well... can't blame a boy for speculating a bit...

I don't think they'll have much trouble with brand recognition, Ebac has always been a well known household name in the UK but they haven't been as prolific advertising like they used to over recent years. I seem to remember alot of promotion in quality magazines and papers like the Sunday times magazine, Readers digest etc over the years. However I do see them on Tv adverts for water coolers and their dehumidifiers.

I'm pleased a British made washing machine will be available once more. They are going to have had to go to a partner already in the washing machine business whoever it is as the cost of developing a washing machine alone from scratch would not make it feasible I'm sure for a smaller company without huge resources.

I took the Union Jack with the digital display, 1200 rpm spin, non-brush motor type and hot/cold fill options.
That would have run me £ 595. Not too much more than what I paid for my Frigidaire FL.

"I wish there was something like this in the USA"

So do I but we've a fat chance of that happening here. I wish this company all the best and much success. The UK deserve to have their own brand of washer again. Perhaps the idea will catch on and someone will do the same on this side of the Pond.

I've tried a few configurations and they seem to start around £300-£400 for a basic machine, going all the way up to £1k for all the bells and whistles.

Ebac are going to have to do everything they can, people aren't exactly loyal these days, they'd rather choose a £100 beko than spend more

Maybe that's just me

"They say that they're building them in partnerships with leading appliance manufacturers... and we know where those get thier stuff from... so now I'm left wondering: are these really made in Britain... or just assembled in Britain?"

Probably just assembled. Perhaps they got some type of trade zone thing going where the pieces can come in duty free and assembled with enough UK labor to qualify as Made in UK (with parts from everywhere else in Europe). Element Electronics is supposedly building flat screens in Detroit with parts from............you guessed it, China.
Shinola watches are assembled in Detroit with parts from Switzerland. I think the watch band comes from FL but don't quote me on it.

"Ebac are going to have to do everything they can, people aren't exactly loyal these days, they'd rather choose a £100 beko than spend more

No, it's not just you. It's everyone especially on this side of the pond. Everyone is after the BBD, bigger, better, deal. Good quality products have been replaced with a hodge podge of cheaply assembled junk from godforsaken factories tucked away in the Far East. Or Mexico. Or anyplace that cheap labor can be exploited without any interference.

Heck, you can see it in their eyes when you describe a quality washer, sofa, table, stove, etc and when you mention the price, the wheels begin to turn.......how can I get it cheaper? Maybe there's something "just as good" only cheaper? Maybe I can get it on Craigslist or Ebay? Rather than rationally look at it as an investment, they're spinning gears trying to get it cheaper.

Sorry, I cannot drum up much sympathy for anyone these days who whines about not having money to buy quality products thus justifying they constant penchant for cheap.
Not when my local shopping mall is full, especially on weekends. Try getting into the Texas Roadhouse on a Friday or Saturday.
Not when the mobile bill with the share everything except your toilet paper runs over $200 a month.
Not when the local pedicure shop in the mall is full of ladies who just cannot seem to deign to paint their own toes.
Not when 3 out of the 5 major new car dealerships have not only thrived during this so-called "Great Recession" but have in fact expanded with new facilities. In fact, not ONE new car dealer in my town closed due to the "Great Recession".
Not when flat screen tellys are flying off the shelves.
Not when $700 Iphones fly off the shelves.

Anyway, I think I made my point. I totally understand when one has a low wage low or no benefit job. Obviously you buy what you can afford. The group I am referring to is the group that appears to have it all yet always looks to save a nickel. When one analyzes their spending habits, it's very easy to see that by being foolish with money, you can be "stuff rich, cash poor".

I hope this company can make a go of it. I really do. I would suspect that there are eager Britons willing and able to work building good quality appliances so long as the cheapskate with his bloated budget is willing to make some spending adjustments to afford said quality product.
Not when

Non-brush Motor

Can someone REALLY be about to make a new Induction Motor washer??? Or does this refer to some sort of stepper / digital hybrid???

Induction motors ROCK!! I would happily pay over the odds for a (high spin speed) 'proper' washer ;)

All best

Dave T

P.S. I'll be looking out for these.... It may finally be time to buy something NEW.... :)

AEG 88810 is the one you want then Dave

It has an induction brushless but not beltless motor and has an 1800 spin. Recirculation spray and variable options.

Looks nice...

... But I doubt that this would be possible in any way. I mean, I love that idea, but I doubt it will happen. I rather would say that they do this as an kind of an survey to find out what consumers want on their washers. So they see which configurations are the most common and than only produce these.
But I found my dream machine:

I think people are getting a bit confused......

paulc's profile picture
Ebac have done this as an exercise in customer research to see what features people want in a washing machine. Am sure if you were able to pick all the features to make your own customised washer you'd be talking thousands of pounds for the top end model.

Well, think of the production costs of building each individual washer. In practice I fail to see how this would work.

I think it can be done to a certain extent. It would take an automated production line with computerized assembling. It has been done with cars for many years so it should be possible with washing machines too. Not sure though how much the price would go up, certainly a bit. It would be a selling point though.

You GO, Washman!!!

Yep, I'm totally with you.

What amazes me is how many of my rich friends thought I was "insane" for spending as much as I did on a new Aerus Lux Guardian Platinum vacuum last summer.

Quality costs money.

And we can easily afford it!

And yet not only will my Aerus outperform whatever screaming plastic nightmare they buy at a big box store, it will likely outlive those plastivacs by at least three generations.

Three fewer plastivacs in landfills ...

Ebac - Norfrost

I watched the programme regarding the Ebac takeover of Norfrost & i have to say that the build quality on those Chest Freezers are just shocking, we used to stock them under the Ice King brand name but we soon put a stop to ordering them in.
