They are usually louder than most because there is never an opportunity to insulate the tank which is, almost always, the cabinet. I just have a thing for the top-loaders and have found them ridiculously useful. I owned a KitchenAid like this one once and it wasn't loud at all.
As you might expect, I have a bunch of GE top-loaders, built-ins and portables, but only one Maytag and one KitchenAid. I'd love to find a newer KitchenAid, a Whirlpool and I'm always looking for more Maytag WP-600's, the largest home dishwasher I've ever seen. |

May have to consider picking one up now that am in the market for a "new" dw.
Remember awhile back there was a new one of the KA model shown above on eBay or CL somewhere in New Jersey IIRC. Guess the lady of the house got it as a present or something and found no use for it so that was that. Anyway what one didn't like is when the group informed the unit did not heat water for wash or rinses. The heating element only came on to dry dishes. That I could not have since during the warmer months when the boilers are off hot water temps are kind of low. I'd be purging that line before each cycle with such a ds. The Whirlpool and GE "Mobile Maid" dws are interesting a Moi as well. But think KA units stand a better chance of having spare parts lying about. |
