A friend of mine has a Frigidaire front load washer(Model #AFT6000fs1) with a broken door(plastic part that keeps door locked).
The washer is about 7 yr old.
Question?
Is it worth getting it repaired?
Or, should he be looking for a new Front load washer, and, if so, what is the BEST Front Load washer to buy that will fit a California King Comforter?
He would like to keep the pricing around $1,000.

Please advise!

The fix

To  fix you need to take the top of the machine off and also the front.  The part itself is about $40.00.  Here is how to take the washer apart to get to the front.   Is the broken part the two prong on the door or insaide the front?

If just on the door easier fix.

N ew fl washer

Aftere opur 10 year old died we ended up buying this one.  It is a great fl and hold everything.  Has steam assit and uses plenty of water on bulky cycle.  It is one of the better ones on market today in my book.

  Only $899.00 at Home Depot.

LG puts out the biggest washer and dryer set now. Washer is 5.3 cubic feet capacity I think and the dryer 9 cubic feet or the Kenmore Elite equivalent which is made by LG.

Yes, they are fabulous! They hold more laundry then ANY other washer Ive ever had before. I like the design and my bulky bed spreads, area rugs, sleeing bags and smaller stuff get real clean. Extremely quiet too.  I found mine at Home Depot. A customer refused delivery and they were on clearance out of box. They claim the refusal was because the buyer asked for stainless finish, not whote like these. I got the pair for  under $ 2000.

The biggest washer is by Samsung now at 5.6 cubic feet. They have that capacity in both top load form and front load form.

Exchanging a door lock unit shouldn't be a problem. So why throw 900$ out of the window if it is just a simple fix?

I would certainly attempt to repair it first. Nothing really 'mechanically' wrong with it.

Unless, of course, you are more interested in replacing it. Then, I would say FIX IT! Then donate it to an appropriate charity, like the battered women's shelter...

Nice to hear of somebody thinking about others to!
If so, I suppose Electrolux or Frigidaire should be good choices. Of course only with internal heater.
Next, one Palace down, Maytag with heater of course. They seem to be good at cleaning, but take their time and use pretty small amount of water.
Then, 3rd place, LG. They wash pretty well, but spinning takes it time and they are of unknown state of durability and service/warranty. Kenmore is mostly LG sourced, so the same.
4th: GE. They are not that durable. Just average machines.
5th: Samsung. They always seemed to be somehow troublesome. They use the most dumbed down temps, clean sometimes not good, spin problems are common and fault rate appears to be high either. And the service is really not usefull at all.
At least, that would be my ranking. Just look for an internal heater, don't be fooled by tub sizes ( 4 ft³ are enough in any case) and look for a extra rinse/ fabric softner/ water plus/more water option.
But again, ONLY if there is NO WAY for a repair!
