I'm curious to know who actually manufacturers some of the laundry centers on the market today - specifically those offered by Maytag, Sears, and GE.

GE offers both a 24 and 27-inch-wide models. The 24-inch models bear a strong resemblance to models that at least used to be offered by Whirlpool. And the 27-inch models have similarities to models offered by Sears. But who's actually manufacturing these? Is GE getting the larger ones from Frigidaire, as in the case of their front-loaders?

What about Sears? Some of the cabinet features look like what GE offers, except Sears uses a porcelain wash basket instead of plastic. I know that Whirlpool manufacturers almost all of Sears' washers and dryers, but what about the laundry centers?

Maytag? Especially since they are now owned by Whirlpool - what's their status? Prior to the sale of the company to Whirlpool, did Maytag manufacture their own laundry centers?

Anyone care to shed some light???

Lawrence

24" Laundry Centers are now exclusively made by Whirlpool for everyone who offers it. Lower priced 27" laundry centers are made by Frigidaire ($750-$900+) Higher priced Kenmore 27" laundry centers (Elite) are sourced from Whirlpool. Maytag does still make their own laundry centers ($1100.+). using a scaled down Dependable Care design, as they always have. Frigidaire also offers a 27" laundry center with a front loading washer. I think Kenmore may offer one as well, made by Frigidaire. Hope this helps!
