Went to a friend's house today for a cookout and of course, had to snap a few pics of his new GE FL washer.
He absolutely loves it!
Tub Light too

GE!

I work at home depot and have sold a few of these. I know they are 28" wide. I havent heard anything good or bad about the performance. Gary do you know how many rinses are given with the extra or max settings?
Thanks,
Peter

I checked out the manual for GE's "RightHeight" line, and it says the Max rinse setting provides 3 rinses. Doesn't specify what Extra or Normal provide.

Offered my sister a new Speed Queen top-loading pair for her birthday, but she really wants a front-loader, despite my warning of longer cycles. I far prefer a modern front-loader anyway, so no arguments from me. And I'm not spending $1600 on a SQ front-load washer which has no internal water heater, smaller capacity (2.84 cu. ft. compared to GE's 4.8 cu. ft.) and very little cycle flexibility--even if it will last 50 years.

Installation is in a wide closet with a shelf above the machines, so pedestals won't work. I think the "RightHeight" pair fits the bill: Loading/unloading is easier; no pedestals needed.  The machine scores well in Consumer Reports' tests (overall score of 76), although it trails behind LG's reliability (15% needing repairs compared to LG's 6%).

80% of materials for GE front-loaders are domestically sourced, so there's that, too.

If I remember correctly, Normal is one rinse, Extra is two rinses, and Max is three rinses.

Normal cannot possibly be just one rinse - that would be crazy, given that there's no spray rinse. I think it's two, three or four rinses.

The manual already states the Max is three rinses.

"Our house, in the middle of non-sense..."

1st: Single rinsing is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. No matter if traditional TL, HE TL, normal FL or HE FL. This equals to no rinsing at all in my opinion as detergent, softner and dirt are just all flushed into one bowl and than burned into you clothes in the dryer. 2 rinses are the least, if not 3.
2nd: They state they are the only ones offering a 3rd fresh water rinse. So, LG does not offer 3 extra rinses selectable? Miele does not do 2 right away? Isn't this somehow not legal? St least, without any mentioning?

I would love to see a video of how the machine handles a single item on the single item cycle.

I was looking at these at Home Depot and they are on sale for less than $800 a piece. I love the size of the wash drum and the dryer drum is a nice 8.3 cu ft...plenty of room in each machine. They also look and feel well made too. I have noticed that the Chinese sourced Little Swan front loaders for GE are close to gone in the stores now. I do love the height of the washer and the dryer that I saw today. I am tempted to cut my SQ loose from the pack and get something a bit more in capacity, and more effiecent water wise.

2nd rinse = two rinses?

logixx's profile picture

I still think the GE does up to four rinses. To me, second rinse always means an extra rinse on top of the two basic rinses. Case in point: the Kenmore HE5t also had a button called 2nd rinse and it still did two rinses by default, adding a third one when pressing 2nd rinse.

My LGs rinse three times on all but two pre set programs. If I want,I can have an extra rinse but, three do the trick. In fact,my second rinses are crystal clear. Extremely quiet, still operation and HUGE capacities. On both 4.0 and the 5.1 capacity models, I was able to readjust the pressure valve increasing the water levels up to the door handle base. That increases the tub turbulence and makes a more dramatic wash cycle to enjoy watching. Rarely ever do I have any issues. After all the rebuilding of two out of three sets, I have really grown even fonder of these great toys in my "sandbox". Their priceing has gone down considerably since 2000 along with noticeable improvements in all LG appliances. You can now get their new WaveForce top loaders without a backsplash for just under $600 or a 4.0 cu ft front loading Tromm for under $700. Those were prices from Home Depot. Sears has a Frigemore set, similar to the Affinities for around $999. Not the best choice but great price for a matced,Deluxe set. Their capacity is the same as SQs. But a lot less expensive. The lack of a button trap also keeps me far away from ANY Electrolux made laundry product.

GE:  The thing I chuckle at it is the Stain Removal Guide settings, which automatically choose the correct settings to remove the selected stain.  Who washes a load with only one type of stain in it?  I'd have to select 'all of the above' (though that isn't permitted, of course).

GE

Even so, the options on this machine are impressive compared to my Affinity FL, which does not offer half of what the GE does and for the same price. I'd be tempted to go with one of these if I were in the market for a new machine, which, considering the amount of laundry I do in a week, won't be for a long time.

Frigidaire Affinity

gadgetgary's profile picture
This machine was a replacement for a Frigidaire Affinity(I think) with a broken door latch.
My friends decided it was better to buy a new machine than replace a 7 yr old machine.
Go figure.

GE vs Affinity

frontloaderfan's profile picture
I see the dryer next to the GE is an older style Affinity, so I assume the washer that was replaced was the matching one to it. Personally, I would most likely have just replaced the broken door latch if that's all that was wrong with the old machine, but to each his own. It's always nice to have something shiny and new!

It appears as if GE is finally starting to sort their mess out with poor quality, poorly performing machines made in Who-Knows-Where. As I said, this new line offers twice as many options as the Affinity for about the same price, plus it has the built-in riser (not to mention an ACCESSIBLE FILTER SCREEN!) and it's at least assembled here in this country, not in Mexico or some other place.

I like that it has bulky because that cycle uses more water, at least it did when it was on the LG and the WP, so I'm guessing it does on the GE too.

Anyone know if new GE's have recirculation? It's a big plus in low water-use machines. Saturates the load very quickly and dissolves detergent pods more efficiently. A favorite feature on my 2010 Frigidaire front-loader.

Love The Recirculation On My AEG/OKO Lavamat

launderess's profile picture
But not thrilled that whatever is in the final rinse will sit in that pump and become part of the next wash.

Using separate "Rinse/Starch" cycle is not on as that cycle does not activate the recirculation system. Each new cycle does begin with activating the pump to drain any water from previous loads, but one does wonder.

For this reason among many only use European detergents such as Persil, Super Croix and Ariel in the AEG. Want really clear rinses to prevent gunk from forming and being deposited on subsequent loads.

Yes, the parts diagram shows two pumps and the door gasket has three inlets (probably: light, fresh water and recirc).

Have to chuckle about the "built-in riser", though. It's nothing more than a drawer-less pedestal screwed onto the base of the machine.

One thing I didn't notice before is that this is a direct-drive washer.

Wouldn't it be cool if they took advantage of the space and built a suds saver into it?

Alex: Thanks for confirming that the GE has recirculation!

Malcolm: That would really be a water-efficient washer, especially if it defaults to one rinse. I thought mickeyd said his new LG defaulted to a single rinse, but coupled with some sort of spray...maybe he can elaborate on that. He might have mentioned it in the video he made. I'll have to take another look at it.

As you can imagine, I want to get a GE set SO BADLY now. Due to a cupboard above my laundry pair, I can't use a full-size pedestal, but the RightHeight pair would work perfectly...and raise the tub opening to a more comfortable level.

I'm very happy with the GE dishwasher, and am beginning to think GE may be my new brand. Looks like they have good ranges and refrigerators, as well.

Maybe my sister can make her Whirlpool set limp along a little longer, and I'll pick up the GE RightHeight pair for myself, LOL.

WhirlTag also sells 10" risers. See, now you don't have just one model to choose from but about... 30? You're welcome. wink

We have had ours since January and love the washer and dryer.  We had the Square door Frigemore that was great but this GE is great.  Washers well and rinses so good.

They are very nice looking. My mom just bought the right height set. She loves them so far. Only had them a few weeks. She did not want a stacked pair because my two sisters have their Duet stacked and she has a hard time seeing the dryer controls. My wife did not want our Duets stacked for the same reason, but is sorry we did not get the risers for ours, but is wondering if they would vibrate more in we had them. Our FL house is on a concrete slab but on the extra high spin the Duet tends to vibrate a lot.

I was wondering if anybody can upload a video of these GE's in action on youtube. BTW, my mom's lg washer does have a recirculating system.
