Hi Everyone,
I just got this little GE portable washer from a appliance dealer, he said its never been thru a cycle. It was in his showroom then in the back room since the 70's I plugged it in today, then blue sparks came from the lid switch, now it wont do anything, does anyone have any ideas for me to make it run? Or live near Orlando that can come look at it with me? Thank you so much..

Take the top off and look at the lid switch and wiring, or call your GE Dealer as this should still be under warranty.

I would bet the warranty on this machine is no longer effective if it dates back to the 70's.Bet you will e on your own on this one.Guess couldn't hurt to contact GE and ask.

No warranty on this little guy. But I would fly someone down to Orlando if they live in a city that JetBlue serves to help me fix this. Even have a great guest room here. Anyone free ??

Fun search time!

It is time for you to visit ALL the old appliance shops in town, get to know the "old timers" behind the desk and tell your tale.
After you find someone to take on your repair, deliver the entire washer TO THEM. Pick it up when it's done.
You've not only bought a fun washer, but you got to know all the important people in town.
Jump in the car! You've got people to meet!

Hi Laundryboy. I remember seeing those in the GE store where I lived in PA. My one coworker had a Sears one she used in her apartment. I have fixed computers for a living and played with some appliances but never had the room to really collect them. would love to try and help you if I could. Where in the Orlando area do you live? I live west of Disney in Davenport near Haines City which is South Route 27 on the way to Legoland. You can contact me through the email in my profile.

You should take the top off of the machine and see if you see any burned areas from where it sparked. That should give you an idea of what part is bad. It could be as simple as a loose wire that fell off a terminal.

We had one of those in the condo we live in around 1983-84. If you live by yourself and do several loads per week they are ok. But ours wouldn't do more that 3 or 4 bath towels at a time. No more than 1 pair of jeans and some dark socks, etc at one time. We tend to let our laundry pile up and if we did that it would take almost 5 days of day and night laundry to catch up.

Plus it was combined with a GE dryer on a stand that blew the exhaust air out of the top of the front of the machine and would cover everything in your house in lint dust. The set was already there when we bought the place and it stayed there when we sold it too.

Gravity drain...

Were'nt some of these models gravity drain (with no drain pump)? I don't see any drain pump in the way of the white drain hose...

Laundryboy, I'm in Ocala and would be willing to come down and take the washer off your hands for what you paid for it working or not.

Hmm, now you have my attention. What part of Orlando are you in? I used to live in Meadow Woods.
Any pics of the Kenmore?
