I would love to have the dryer, as I already have the washer, and my mom could use a dependable washer as the new maytag she has, has already had a new timer, and the damn thing just quits to cool down after so many loads washed in a row.

Sandwich is only about 3 hrs. from peoria.

That is a very attractive and valuable pair, if in good condition. is the washer large tub?

Yes both the washer and dryer contain Maytags "BIG LOAD" tubs. I have that very same set, except my dryer is electric. Nice set

I am SO excited about these..

Aside from our dryer eas electric, this is the same model set my parents bought in 1977 in Harvest gold, and I hated to see them go in 1996.
The best part is they are close!!

OMG!!!

Here's to hoping I never have as many washers as I have vacuums! I'd need a mansion!
I do love the old Maytags though, and really the only other vintage washer I would like to have someday would be a 1-18 of some type.

Greg: Can't wait to see you too, I have some ideas on how maybe I could have the Maytag hooked up and keep the Amana too.
My poor Amana is waiting for an audience with you as well.

Jeff, so glad you got this beautiful pair. Almond 08's are so rare. I think this is the best washer and dryer model Maytag ever made. Just luv 'em. Send us pics!

Bobby

When my mom bought her 608 set in 1977 Almond was just coming out, I can remember the salesman telling mom about the new color, but he didn't yet have a machine for display. I will be curious to know when this set was made, Mom took delivery of her set in September of 1977.

Post# 118225 , Reply# 21   3/28/2006 at 07:06 (6,596 days old) by bobbyderegis (Boston)

Makes sense, Jeff. My 1977 catalogue doesn't even offer almond. I think almond really took off in 1979 with Maytag. How is the condition of the pair? My almond A612 looks like it just came out of the showroom- my cousin's identical model has rust all around the lid through no fault of hers. They look pretty good in the E-bay foto.

Congrats Jeff!

Hey Jeff!

Welcome to the world of washer obsession!! These Maytags are a great place to start!! It's all downhill from here, you know! :-)

Have fun and enjoy them!

Venus :-)

update

I have offered the seller some additional $$$ for the pair, namely because I feel they are worth it, and they are takign up space in his garage.
I've rented a pickup truck(how butch!) this weekend to retrieve them and the KA DW I won a couple of weeks ago.

Now to move some stuff around in Hooverland so I can accomodate a 2nd washer.

Venus: Thanks, these Maytags are probably my faves, although I like the look of the 1-18's too.

Bobby: Had I gotten my way, mom's 608's would have been coppertone. I still like that color today!

Yikes,Hoover! Hoover vs. Eureka uprights and coppertone Maytags we may never agree on! LOL,

Now Bobby

If we always agreed on everything, that would be kinda boring wouldn't it?

Amen, Jeff!

We can agree to disagree, but boring is out of the question! LOL,

yes!

Boring is definately OUT!

I never said the Almond was bad either, just that I'd have preferred coppertone over the harvest gold.
Mom had a kitchen full of that gold stuff for a long time!
I think these Maytags will look nice in Almond.

i remember reading the laundry guide (sitting on top of dryer in listing?) cover to cover when i was a child. i esp remember the sudscake in the washer pictured in the guide. Mr Parker, do you already have a plan for refreshing/taking apart these machines when you get them? and i dont think youve spoken about the dryer? David

Post# 118424 , Reply# 29   3/28/2006 at 22:00 (6,595 days old) by hoover1060 ()
for a little while

these will live in Fred N's basement at Tarantula Arms. I will be able to have the Maytag washer hooked up here as well as my Amana, just have to make some room in Hooverland for a Maytag.
Not sure about the dryer yet.

Funny, Jeff. Thinking about colors, I guess my favorites are just white and almond. (love almond because I'm stuck in the 80's). Yikes, this could qualify me for BORING!!!

Bobby,

White never gets old, and I like the look.
Most of my kitchen today is almond, Fridge, stove, sink are, and then my DW and microwave are black to match the oven door. I also added black porcelain pulls for the cabinets and drawers which are painted something called "Swiss Coffee" Cap it all off with black and or chrome smalls(mixer, blender, toaster, coffeemaker) and its a nice look.
Perhaps I should have the Maytags live in the kitchen?

Post# 118531 , Reply# 32   3/29/2006 at 11:35 (6,595 days old) by bobbyderegis (Boston)

Jeff, if that 608 pair in in good condition and can be polished up, I'd put them where everyone could see them. My 12 series almond pair are in the kitchen, and I love the "purr" they make as they run. I love the idea of coffee colored door handles. I just might have to change mine over. I have an 80's Amana almond top fridge, almond KDS 20, and almond Litton microwave. Do you think this says something about me??????? LOL, enjoy the 'tags!

How about this kitchen Bobby?

Jeff, CONGRATULATIONS on the new Maytags!!! They look great, and will be your first vintage set so we're all excited for you!!

In my opinion, Maytags aren't the least bit boring. From the early Gyratator AMPs to the Highlanders, to the post-1965 Washpower Automatics, they're ALL fun machines to watch!! Nice, long, slow strokes, great rollover, and, depending on the load, hurricane-like tidal waves!! What more could you ask for? :)

I promise lots of pictures too!

That kitchen is screaming for a Maytag pair- but I'd put in an 06 pair. The metallic blue back panel would complement the aqua wall oven. But when it comes to Maytags, they all look great. Keep us posted!

Yea Jeff, Looks wonderful to me. I have the electric dryer in harvest gold and it has never had a repair. I bought mine in 1980 just before Maytag was switching over to the new models. I use mine every week along side of my Kitchen Aide washer from 1995. Have fun. Gary
