Who builds Haier's dishwashers? |

I was browsing through the lineup of CR tests for dishwashers, and decided to look at some brands that I don't see often, like Electrolux, Viking, etc. CR also has some pretty good photos of the interiors that the brand's websites don't have. Upon looking at one of the Haier machines, I noticed that the interior as a whole looks oddly like a Whirlpool Point Voyager (tall-tub) design. The detergent and rinse aid assembly are identical, as well as the vent, and the door itself has the same 3-level "step" design of newer WP's. The pump assembly itself has a similar screen design, and the outer area of the sump is off-set to the right just a bit, as are WP's. Even the overflow switch to the right corner is the same. The only parts that differed were wash arms and racks, and cosmetic differences like the sump grate.
I don't really keep up with Haier. Until recently I honestly thought they just made low-budget A/C units and dorm fridges. These dishwashers are either built by Whirlpool or Haier seems to have borrowed many an idea from them. | ||

When foreign looks American
Having worked with foreign manufacturers for most of my life, I find the following three situations to probably be the case.
I do not know who makes the dishwasher you show, but here are three generic situations that one will usually find to be the case when you find a foreign product looks a lot like an American-made product. A) The foreign marketer wants to "round out" their offerings for a kitchen suite but cannot come up with a reasonable design for a dishwasher in time. They buy an American dishwasher, put their name on it and they are done. This can be a temporary situation until foreign maker finally finishes their design. B) The foreign marketer buys a "kit" from the American manufacturer. Dishwasher cavities, range cavities and microwave cavities are very hard to engineer. If foreign marketer buys just the "frame" of the unit including door, heating element and racks, the foreign marketer can install their own electronics and trim. This saves time and brings a product to market quicker. C) It can be a copy of an American product. | ||

Manual I just looked at the manual and in terms of design, structure and data it looks quite simmilar to a PV manual. And IMHO, the control panel looks like a PV as well. | ||
