i couldn't believe someone would do this to a vintage washer & dryer, and since it had already been done, thought i would share with fellow vintage appliance/washer fans, what idiots there are in this world, to do something like this to what looks to be a perfectly good working set. in fact, i'm still kinda shocked. and i keep asking myself "why, would someone do that?" i mean, what was the point of them destroying them maytags??? i can't comprehend it???? |

Don't trouble your self trying to figure out "why"... these guys are just a pair of low-lifes and they were just washing machines. I know this type of creep, and there's no fixing them.
What troubles me is that when you see such glee in the destruction of mere things, cruelty towards animals and people is not far away. |

When was the last time any of you looked at or saw the world or your local news? Some people are not worth the air time we acknowledge trying to understand them. |

It looks like this was filmed in Canada as the dryer has the CSA tag. What a shame... It made me mad when I saw what they did to the suds-saver switch. It looks like they did something similar to the Chrysler minivan in the background. I'm wondering if they have the same plans for the Thunderbird.
At least, there are people who care more. There was a HOH 406 dryer just like this one that was advertised at $30 for a while in Trois-Rivières QC and when I got my Harvest Gold 806, I called the owner to see if he still had this one as I wanted white panels for mine. When I called, his wife told me he was in the garage and had just began to dismantle it to send it to the scrapyard a few hours earlier... I explained her what I wanted and she said that the panels were probably fine... He called me back and offered them to me for free. When I arrived, I was quite surprised to see how carefully he dismantled everything. He gave me a lot of parts along with the panels. I told him that I would have needed to do just what he did and that saved me time so I insisted that he had the money for the dryer!
Everyone was happy!
And soon after, my harvest gold dryer was transformed in a white dryer to match with my washer!

I came across a similar video once where the user decided to destroy a Hoover Dial-A-Matic vacuum. Having owned two of these, I couldn't understand why anyone would want to destroy it, since it's an extremely well built vacuum. I did take a little solace that in the 30 minutes it took him to destroy it, it didn't actually stop working. What did it in ultimately was him setting it on fire or something to that tune (I blocked it out, honestly). The vacuum itself took whatever the idiot threw at it and still kept going.
It's sad that there are people out there that find destruction like this amusing or funny. Maybe I'm missing the joke or something, because it reads to me like these people need to get out more. Just my two cents. |

There was a destroying a GE washer video I was somehow directed to--and a post-toggle switch General Electric, at that...

I don't get it either... But there are so many things that go wrong on this planet.
I just can't figure how some people get fun at destructing things or inflicting pain to others or animals... That probably explains wars and a lot of bad things that are happening: People with bad intentions and low power brains end destructing washing machines and others with a more powerful brain end doing much worse...
That's too bad because even the slowest brains can make nice things if motivated by good intentions. |

If it a generational thing, you know there's a lot people (not all) that I see, that I call "the throw away generation"
You'd be hard pressed to find similar footage of a child of the depression doing something like this! "The greatest generation" were forced to have to make due with what they had. Or do without! Doubt the thought process of destroying something that was still useful would have been considered! The mind set would have been "can we fix it so it could be used to get by with" because we don't have one! This is mindless, crude, and selfish, it only serves as a sick instant gratification for sociopath a-- hole |

Everyone's shocked because they filmed it being destroyed under your eyes, and you use very hard words....like if it were something "unusual"...
OK......I agree with the insults...fully deserved. BUT Let me tell you, that actually, I don't consider them any different of all those people that moving to a new house and or emptying the Grandmama house simply send a full lot of vintage quality and still fully functional items them to the crasher.... Why? Because they're old.... Old... many many people, especially the younger ones, who most than others tends to follow the trends dictated by this consumistic society who like never before relies on apparence and "image" (image that is not even fruit of people's will, but of what they tell you should have as image) rather than content, so following fashion as status symbol and associate their identity to that, you don't have an Iphone? You have an avocado or cream Kitchen aid superba? and not a new Silvery one your new kitchen? You are an alien! This is the reasoning of good puppets of today, and that I think is one of the major causes for economic disaster western world is living today, while eastern world is getting richer and richer. Old... they use this word as a synonim of worth nothing, either because they have no knowledge and not even have skills or brain power to determine the value of something, in appliances as for cars etc... You see that in most of the things of today, these are the ones happy with their new fashion steel kitchens and plastic china junk as long as they have a LCD display and lots of trinkets "space ship- like" of dubious usefulnes even though, not doing the job they're supposed to...and substantially being a piece of plastic that will last few years at best....not nearly comparable to the quality of the things of old. To understand the beauty, that is not only in the long-gone style of vintage things but also for materials and quality you gotta have intelligence and knowledge, that these people miss.... If you think of it: In today's difficult economy, and tendency, let's say fashion, because this is also a fashion, to go always more "green", the re-use and second hand, following a logical reasoning should be the norm ...but it isn't.... Why? because as for everything today it is just a fashion basing on the appearance of something, rather than results and factual things... with the goal to let the big ones make money... I am not sure till what point, all the cospirations theories, are right or wrong, I mean...that there's someone up there who's deciding the sorts of the world and countries....and that now the East (China etc) is the chosen one to become the new world power... BUT.... It's also true that all what we are living, all what they tell us to do...TV, medias and economy trends in general just benefit them....following a logical reasoning, if a country would like to really protect it's market and economy as for the enviroinment...would rather chose to enhance second hand to benefit internal economy and avoid tons of good stuff to go the crusher, well...they wanna make money..okay...at least they'd avoid china stuff to be imported? I mean....they keep telling us our cars are pollutioning the world, our factories are serverely taxed and billions are spent (from the our own factories pockets) to mitigate their alleged pollutioning, workers safety etc, producing costs are rising rather than decreasing, this while china keeps doing the hell they want, they can turn rivers Red, pink, blue every color they want with factories waste, nuclear power plants and parterships with russia are increasing, this while in Europe they wanna shut them down, people there needs to go around with mask in the foggy smog cities, nobody controls on how they're pollutioning our world and conditions workers work down there....not to mention, the direct damage to our companies and economy, like all the knock-offs and or stuff not respecting safety regulations and actually not marked safe by control organism, so lacking the most basical safety norm for quality and materials used, merchandise imported "under the counter" by several criminal organizations, and distribuited and sold in chinese bazaars/dollar shop in which nobody goes to check... If a country really care about pollutioning would avoid chinese imports...no? NO! Indeed, more and more economic agreements are made with China that favors their economy rather than ours, every day... you see it every day....think of it. Where is planet conservation, people's safety in all this? Well, here I am going really too poltical for the forum that is......and I excuse myself... But little things like this are just food for thoughts about the world and society in which we are living today... For my new house I decided to purchase the most of things second hand, and avoid buying new stuff of which the most would likely come from China etc... on the other hand this is what I am doing since I live on my own... I think I am doing the difference....the one that matter. This post was last edited 08/13/2014 at 11:37 |

Christina it is shocking, even though we know it goes on,
and even though I have seen similar destruction, it is still unsettling. There is NO rationalizing an Irrational thought process. I am happy to say that I just closed on an original 1922 Bungalow, that had a simple kitchen upgrade in the 40s and a bath remodel in the early 50's (see pic / it will stay that way, except for a few touches, new seat, etc:). I have every intent on keeping this house intact, and writing a letter to the seller conveying just that, is what got them to accept my offer. It was an estate of a Lady who bought it in 1939, and just passed at 105. She absolutely loved her house, and it was her son, who grew up there, who sold it to me. I am hoping what I do to preserve this house will somehow offset, or cancel, the evil done by the likes of the two in the video. Let's all KEEP ON doing what we do. We are the NATURAL Recyclers, and Living History. I say we are the winning team no matter what these guys try to undermine. Hope this makes sense :) BEST WASHES, Louis

I appreciate your compliments. I am very happy.
This is my first home, and it took over 2 years of searching, 2 mortgage companies and 6 months on this house alone to get it done. Yes Jason, the bath is awesome. I so wanted an original one, and my Realtor who is very cool, was laughing at how excited I got when I saw it. I'm really excited to start bringing in my vintage furniture. The kitchen has a Homart Metal Washstand/Porcelain sink. I will put that in the basement for a summer kitchen, and I'm going to install a 6 piece set of turquoise appliances I got out of another house. Here is another pic or two of the house as it is now, it the condition I bought it. I hope you find your dream bungalow one day soon Christina :) Talk soon. Louis |

I love that style of Homart cabinets. Congratulations! It's a beautiful home; I wish there were more people that looked to preserve these wonderful homes rather than just replace with new, poorly made stuff. You are preserving the original owner's memory too, which is uncommon these days. Most people don't seem to have any respect for the past. It's a shame.
