I found this washer in a video and it's a usual older Maytag. Newer than my A212. And it's a self clean filter? It has the same four hole agitator as all the other older ones and theirs no way those self clean. So how does this one? You can find the video by searching Maytag Washer After Rebuild. You all probably have seen it.

I had one similar to yours. The agitator had the familiar 4 holes and the fabric softener cup, but there was no filter inside the agitator behind the holes. To compete with Sears/Whirlpool, Maytag engineers carved two opposing polygonal holes in the bottom of the washbasket, directly under the agitator base and fitted them with two screens made out of the same tarlatan material used in the HOH dryer plastic lint filters. I don't know how well they worked, because as soon as I bought my 1995 Maytag washer, I tossed the offending new-style boring white agitator and retro-fitted the machine with a classic blue Powerfin Agitator with filter and dispenser and a chrome top. One of the reasons that I did it is because we only have septic systems here in Stony Creek and the guy that came out to inspect the system when I moved in the house suggested that I not flush stuff like lint down the drains. It builds up, doesn't degrade and clogs the systems. A lot of people here but those filters over the ends of the drain hoses as well to stop the lint from going into the fields.

Wow, that's odd. But remember, this was the traditional four hole turquoise agitator. I'm still confused!

Ken, I was about to fire off an email asking you what the tub is doing out of the Maytag, then I saw it was a Repair Clinic photo so I knew you were at least partially behaving. Carry on.

I made that video. The original agitator was white with a lint filter and those stupid holes in the bottom of the tub. I looked for the blanks to fill in the holes and couldn't find any, so I made my own.

Here's the link. It explains but it will take awhile to read. lol.

Hey! Finally, I knew something was fishy about this. I knew that newer generation Maytags had those new white agitators. So you put in a new and differnt motor so it wasn't a helical drive? Then put the old fashioned one in?

Yeah. I swapped out the transmission and agitator from an old machine with the original style transmission. Most parts are interchangeable on Maytag machines. I turned a newer style machine into what I wanted it to be.
