So here's the scoop. This dryer was on ebay in December. Bid on it, was outbid. I wanted it because I have 1&1/2 of the matching washer, which is going to be restored with in Omaha this spring. Didn't think too much of loosing the bid until one night during a late night conversation with Greg he told me that this dryer was somewhat rare, because of the lines on the glass. I didn't know that and was kicking myself for not bidding more. Within two days it was on ebay again because the winner did not pay. I bid again and was the only bidder. It sold for $100.00 less than the first time. Kinda sux for the seller! So it arrived this week and works like a charm-quiet as they say it is! Now I am excited about the upcoming restoration of the washer. Notice the label still on the top of the dryer? It mentions that there was a dryer sprinkler for this, anyone have one for sale? And as always, I am looking for the owners manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Don,

I love that "Automatic Dryer" lettering on the front...my AMP has the same but it's "Automatic Washer" of course!

What year would this one be (I'm guessing 1957 or 1958?), and what makes it so rare?

Beautiful Dryer and great story!

I just bought a 1962 A700 washer in February and just love it's styling....the grey dial and buttons and the lighted control panel, the chrome....

Nice story there Don - and a great lookin' dryer! Lined glass and the thick chrome strip make this a beauty - it'll look great next to the matching washer!

Stoic, dignified utility. Copper accents, black buttons & dial, red Maytag script - just beautiful! I believe Rickr has them in pink.

I've been slighted!

Wow, I get no credit for tipping you off to this dryer the second time around.

Yes Yes! I did forget to mention that. I was trying to post this while multi tasking! It was Versatronic who saw the repost of the item on ebay and sent me a note.

It's a beauty

Don, I'm glad you got the dryer safe and sound. It's a beauty. Mine doesn't have the fancy lines on the control panel, but other than that, they look pretty similar. So is the matching washer the A142?

Wonderful machine Don. I've always liked Maytag dryers.

Congratulations on finding this Don,and getting the second chance to own it. Like Maytag washers, their dryers are a very solid, quiet machine. They make a wonderful set,and everyone has to love the look of the classic center timer Maytags.

I own this set from 1958. Well.....at least they were down there the last time I looked!!! (:

Thanks for all the kinds words. Beautiful set Rick, as are all of your machines. My washer is a 142S-never seem to find anything without a suds saver on it here in Minneapolis.
