So picked up a kds60a and the thing has two weird things going on no matter weather or not the handle is down the thing will run. I',m assuming it has something to do with program switch and secondly the timer is not resetting at end of cycle again is that switch related?? Can I use any timer from the kds20 series or does the A change that???? Help help help!!! By the way the kds18 you helped me with is running flawlessly!! Anyone else chime in as we'll too! Thanks guys.

It sounds like your machine has a bad door switch. If it runs all the time with handle up and won't reset itself after a cycle (when you open the door) then one of the door interlock switches is either bad or is stuck in the closed position. Check those before you spend any money on a new timer.

Program switch problems

I would have to think that the program switch is not "cancelling" when the latch is opened. There is an actuator that pushes the slides back into the switch to open the contacts when the latch is opened and it is adjustable. The adjustment is noted specifically in the service manual. This may cure your ills.

Also, the "A" series machines may be the machines that they first used the reversing motors,These units will have different timers and program switches on them from the standard 20 series machines. You can tell if it has the reversing motor if there are more than a black, white and green wire going to the motor itself as well as a start relay on the cross member.

Checked the actuator out and it's fine program switches are not reseting when latch is opened so I would say it's the selector switch itself.

It Is A KDS-20

All 20 series DWs had a non-reversing motor and a drain valve as your picture shows.

Steve is likely correct that it is either a bad selector switch or the reset mechanism is broken or not adjusted correctly.
