Hi everyone,

I am new to the group but have always loved vintage appliances. I am going to look at this washer and would like to know what to look out for. It has a small basket that sits on the agitator (for small loads?) and the screen dish that sits on top to catch lint. I am wondering if this is a good washer or not and if it is, what the approximate year and make it is. I think it is a GE Filter flow, but I'm not sure. Help!

Thanks, Jeff

2manycats, yes it is a filterflow.  you use the screen as you posted on the small container a "Mini Basket'.  the filter flow screen sits on the mini basket.. Larger Loads you use only the "screen" not the minibasket to filter lint. The GE looks in good shape,  Congrats if you get it. Most likely from the late 1980's to the early 1990's because of the black console

This is the last of that generation. It actually may be a rim flow. I seem to remember the last year or 2 before the redesigned T-line, that GE used the hotpoint rim flow instead of the old filter flow..

I think that's a 1992; the 1991 had the standard consoles with the black and red faces, 1992 were the black slanted consoles and 1993-1995 was the white slant consoles. Those white ones came in both rimflo and filterflo; the rimflows were released later toward the end of production.

Thank you all for the info and help. I decided to pass on it but it looks like is sold rather quickly.

If anyone in the Pittsburgh area has a 50s-60s washer and / or dryer set for sale, let me know. Thanks again!

Jeff

Those are beautiful Goatfarmer! I am talking to a guy right now about a Frigidaire 1-18 that he has. Is this a good washer? I don't have much room in the laundry lol

You're asking the wrong guy about 1-18's. I worked on them when they were new, and I hated them. Not much has changed over the years............

1-18s

1-18's are FANTASTIC for a laundry hobbyist. The action and sound and results are great, all the different way it does things than an oscillating agitator. But they never sold as well as Maytag, Sears, and GE, so parts can be hard to find, and they are all at least 35 years old now. For a hobbyist/enthusiast they are a MUST. For a single machine, home laundry, kinda risky. Many folks here thoroughly enjoy their 1-18's, but opinions vary for sure.
