My earliest Washing machine memory growing up in Sydney Aust was a machine that had a Top loader lid but inside was a horizontal rotating drum which had a spring loaded hatch on it where you put the clothes.I also remember my mother reaching in and there was another hatch opposite from which she withdrew the lint filter for cleaning. It was a funny setup where you accessed the filter in the outer drum through hatches in the inner drum.
My mother called it the "Easy" but I haven't seen any pictures or references to a Horizontal axis "Easy".It came with the house which we moved into in 1962 and definitely wasn't new then.
When it finally became end of life I remember my brother pulling it apart for reasons that escape me.
Dad replaced it with a Hoover 565,a great machine which we had forever
Can anyone identify the "Easy" ??
thanks
Micko

Australian Easy

Hi Micko,

I remember a neighbour having one of those in the mid 1960's. Exactly as you described. I have a Choice Magazine from that period which includes a very detailed test. I can scan and send to you.

1960's "Choice"?

That magazine would be fascinating. I remember reading "Choice" in the early 1970's and being fascinated by all the pictures, charts and comparisons.

If there are any washing machine tests from that era, that make great reading if you were able to post them here.

I'd love to get a scan of the Choice magazine article particularly if its got pictures.
Can you email it to me or upload picture. It was a very unusual machine and I'm sure others would be interested.Interesting how they imported a lot of products in those years
thanks
Micko
