Been a good season for unused vintage machines. Just the ones I'm remembering: yours, late Easy twin, Speed Queen twin. Styling suggests late/latest Duo. Congrats.

Lordy Lordy...I'm gettin' da vapors! Pass the salts please!

That's definitely a beaut! Why can't anyone be so lucky on this side of the river and find some buried little gem like that?

Well, Congratulations on a great find!

You've got yourself . . .

. . . a beauty there.

I've got a 1959 model, and it works like a charm.

Enjoy.

Congratulations!

It is an electric condenser model. John has a similar TOL Hi-Speed condenser model in Beltsville. It has the larger door on top for the lint screen as well as detergent. It also has the dispensers where the user sets the amount of bleach and fabric softener on the control panel and warm air displaces that amount and sends it up to be added to the cylinder at the proper times.

This model does not have the fan for air circulation during the drying which is why it does not have a lint screen. A Mint In Box Duomatic is quite a find. You must be on Santa's nice list.

WOW, whats the story behind this one, it looks to be a 1960-62 model.

These were fun machines and one of the simplest combos ever made, so hopefully if you plan on trying to use it, it will probably work.

If you've got $6K burning a hole in your pocket, I know where there's a NIB Jacobs Launderall....  (ducks and flees to safety)

What would this machine be worth?

Ah, there's that other shoe.

As I immediately suspected, this machine may be up for grabs.  Hasn't anyone here learned?

I'm afraid it's too late to put on your game faces and delete your gushing posts above.

I would like to see someone who would appreciate it get ahold of it rather than see it got to a scrap pile.

It's worth what someone will pay for it.  May be the only one around, so pricing it is difficult.

There Will Be....

danemodsandy's profile picture
....Some start-up issues, even though this unit appears unused. Re-lubrication of some parts, plus checking of all hoses, valves, etc. will be needed. The door boot might benefit from applications of glycerin if it is not otherwise damaged.

The unit may need less or more than I've said, but Rip Van Winkle stuff isn't necessarily plug 'n play, is all I'm trying to say.

This thread should be moved to Shoppers Square.

1. Ultramatic is quite correct as to the proper location of this thread.

2. No easy way of saying this but, man up guys! *LOL*

How many times have we been lead down this path before? Someone with no previous activity shows up with one or two pictures of appliance porn. Everyone proceeds to get all hot and bothered and then things (usually) start taking odd turns.

I for one am still wondering what any appliance would be doing "under" an appliance store, box or not. Was it buried in a time capsule? Hidden during the War? Was this store built upon the foundations of a previous building where the basements were sealed over? That story wants fleshing out.

We have heard neither hide nor hair from the OP since he found, came upon, discovered, unearthed, ran into.... this appliance. Is it being offered for sale? Or as sadly all too common the thing is being shopped on this website so someone can sum up potential interest and or value.

L.

L, Dear

rp2813's profile picture

That wasn't Fearless Leader.  It was Louie.

At this stage, the machine isn't for sale or up for auction, or advertised on CL.  The Imperial forum is still kosher, even if the OP isn't.

I'm still asking myself if I'm the only one here who checks profiles when an unfamiliar user name pops up with a fantastic item to "share," gives few details, and does not otherwise demonstrate any interest in vintage machines.  It's simple arithmetic, everybody.

While reply #15 above suggests good intentions, the circumstances (see my previous post) further suggest there will be a premium price associated with them.

If I knew how to play poker, I'd clean up with this crowd.

No response

I did email the seller, but have not gotten any response yet. If I do hear anything I will certainly let the group know.

I don't get upset about these types of posts. While they can be disappointing, I don't have the time to stress out over them. They'll always be another find!! :)

You all wanted to know the story behind this so here it is. My grandfather owned the original store and it was passed down to a relative when he passed, it had been rented out to a business for the past 40 plus years. That business moved out recently and the building has been sold, the old renter asked my brother and myself if we would like to go through and get some of my families stuff out from the basement before he turned over the keys. We found many treasure from my families history that had been stored in this old basement. This beautiful washer was on of many but was the only new never used one. We wondered the value on such an amazing item not just to dump off or squeeze as much as we could out of someone, but to find someone truly interested in such a magnificent piece. None of it matters now though because my relative in charge sold the building and all of its contents without offering a single family member a chance to maybe get a piece of memories or anything at from the the basement. I am friends with the new owners and although they will not part at this time with any of the contents I will get as many photos of all the amazing items and share them with you all.

What a Great Story

Rick, please accept my apology for expressing skepticism.  Most of us here are well beyond twice shy when somebody new surfaces and wants to know what a certain item is worth.

You clearly have good intentions, and I know Big Al will appreciate your efforts associated with the subject machine.

Thank you Rick, that is a great story! If you are able to grab some more photos we would all love to see more of this beautiful machine.

I agree that this thread belongs in Imperial. I did say when I originally set up Shoppers Square that any vintage washer, dryer or dishwasher that was new or unused should generally be posted in Imperial.

Shoppers Square

Stories like this are my favorite thing to read in the imperial forum but if it was in shoppers square I might not have seen it as I dont always go there.I recently bought a rare 800 series gold kenmore washer that I havent posted yet which also had an interesting story behind it and today I bought a diving bell bendix that was posted there that was at a habitat for humanity store.I think shoppers square is great but it has a downside, the unintended consequence of watering down the imperial forum, there are some great stories over there now that you only used to see in imperial.
