Has anyone tried using the auto bumper restorer on an agitator? I bought some Meguirs for black trim and bumpers. It almost acts as if it is feeding into the bakelite so to speak. Looks great so far. I've been giving it several coats. Will it last? Good idea or bad idea?

I'd be afraid that if it's a varnish-like thing it may peel and chunk off to pieces and get in the clothes with the time...
Bumpers don't typically see mechanical action similar to an agitator, but sun and acid rain and temperature swings and these things are what fades them... agitators do see mechanical action, I'd not mind the water but just it's temperature whenever used very hot, and some chemicals, even true a bumper coating should be made to last to some extent these elements if meant to stay on a car bumper, sun/heat and rain but as said is clothes constantly swishing through it that would worry me more.. even more the buttons and so forth....a scratch and all the rest will come off as water finds it's way through it.
I think only time will tell....

I've seen with my servis agitator that most of times it's not the bakelite that faded but it's a patina of limescale and precipitation detergents with much soda created, bakelite seems to be fertile soil to precipitations to bind with vs the "plastic".
A run laid down in the dishwasher with plenty of vinegar is what worked for me, it wasn't like new but that helped removing good part of the gunk and patina and it was about as shiney as before, maybe it needed to stay more but I used the short warm cycle for crystals ,on the bottom it was so gunked up that had some lint stuck with limescale, most have gone.

It probably won't last.  Does it say anything on the label about how many washes the treatment will tolerate?

I'd be concerned about residue in the wash water, and am not sure that running a cycle without clothes would be enough to eliminate it.

It does't seem as if it's a varnish. More like an off white cream colored wax. But it does not dry to a haze. For bumbers and trim it is supposed to last at least 3 monthss. I believe it says you can use it on rubber seals as well. Will let you know the results over time. Thank you all!

Krylon?

What about trying the Krylon Fusion paint for plastics?
Seems that would be a better solution, IMO.

I agree with reply 1. What u used might be ok but I would have cleaned it and close the lid. No paint for sure imo. Many times less is more...Happy New Year;)
