Hi,

My Dad was an appliance engineer for many years, he began working as a 15 year old and ended up owning the business after many years.

Aged 67 he recently passed away after a two year battle with cancer but he continued to work right up to November 2014. I'm just sorting out his workshops and have come across a number of vintage machines. Washers, spinners, twin tubs, top loaders, washers with aringers (Service, Hoover, Hotpoint, Imperial are all manufacturer badges I recognise)

Many of the machines have gathered years of dust but I'm planning to clean them up. My question I suppose is would they be of interest to people? Dad kept them as he was going to display then in his shop window but he never got time to sort it. Also would there be interest in the parts?

I've also got motors, circuit boards, door boots and lots of other new or nearly new parts. Including vacuum bits etc

I'll try and get some pictures and post them up.

We are sorry for your loss, but grateful that you would think of us when sharing your dad's treasures.

Things will get better slowly. Winter is a rough time to be coping with grief; been there, done that & hated it.

Sorry for your loss. You have come to the right place. Much better knowing that interesting appliance items will be saved, rather than scrapped at the junkyard. I've been there. If you have the time, space, and patience, save as much as you can; however, know that you can't save everything.

Hi Richard.
Reiterating what others have said, sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. Found myself in the same situation a couple of years ago. A very cruel thing cancer, but heartening that your dad was able to work until so recently.
Condolences.

Re the machines and spares - thanks for finding us and getting in touch via the forum.
As and when you have time, find out the manufacturer and model numbers involved and let us know via this thread. If possible, upload some photos.

Thanks again for getting in touch, especially at such a difficult time.
Regards
Paul

Hi Richard,

I am very sorry to hear about your Dad, I share your pain because my Grandad who was like a Dad to me, passed away in Feb 2012 from lung cancer (mesothelioma) brought on by asbestos in the factories he worked in during his early ages. He was 69 when he died so we both kind of share a close age there.

However, I am very interested to know what machines you have stored, as I'd like to own, even just 1 classic washer for myself as I am very limited on space in my small house. If you have any Hotpoint 95 Series I sure would be interested.

Once again, sorry for your loss, hope all is well for you and your family,

thank you,

Brandon. :'(

Hi Richard, I too and am sorry for your loss.

I am in the Leeds area and may be interested in buying depending on what model's are available.

I may also be interested in some vacuum bits, if you could post photo's please.

Thanks for offering these up to the forum instead of just chucking them :)

Jacob

Vintage machine - pictures

Here's the photos, they haven't cleaned up so bad. I expect some of these are quite rare machines looking online.

Comments appreciated or any idea of rarity or values.

Thanks for all your comments and interest so far.

Regards
Richard

Some of those are rare, dating back to the 60s!

You wouldn't by any chance have any Hotpoint 95** series washing machines would you, as I've been wanting one for ages! White & brown in appearence, from the 1980's to the 1990's? Thanks.

Thanks a lot.

Jacob

I am so sorry for your loss.

I didn't see the message until today, but want to convey my sympathies. Like many on here have shared, I lost my Dad too. He was just a few months shy of turning 61 back in 2002 when he passed. It is wonderful that you care enough about your Dad's things to try to find new homes for them. We did the same with some of the 1955 Oldsmobiles that my Dad had. I was very careful when selling each one to make sure they went to someone who would come as close to loving them as he did. Take care of yourself and I hope your healing process will guide you to as much peace as possible.

Robyn

Hi Richard

my sympathies too, I've been there too with may dad.

And such a shame he didn't get to make his window display, It would have really been an attraction. This is the sort of shop many of us would have grown up with are noses pressed up to the glass not being allowed in by our mums.

As others have said, you've got some early machines, I would love that hotpoint supermatic twin tub, but being down in cardiff that is easier said than done.

But thinking of spares, for me in particular anything for any of the series of hoover keymatics, in particularly door boots, and also a door boot for the english electric liberator would be almost too much even to hope for. But in general hoses and pumps for all the twin tubs are useful to many of us, I'm sure others will have other hoped to find parts.

Thanks for your time to go through these things and to find us, I hope you find some good homes.

All the best

Mathew

Funny, the Hotpoint Supermatic has drawn a lot of attention. In reality i knew some of these were probably very rare but hadn't quite realised it would raise so much interest.

There's loads of old motors, door boots, far too much for me to wade through if I'm honest. A lot of its not even marked up so those with knowledge could only spot what's really worthy of salvage.

I've picked lots of the unused boxed motors and will be listing on EBay soon. Here's a list of those.

If anyone wants to contact me feel free to email r1chbarker@yahoo.co.uk or call me 07957620379.

Any ideas on values would be immensely helpful.

Regards
Richard

Jacob, sorry no I don't think so. Probably thrown loads away over the years too.

Also to everyone, thanks for your condolences and prayers, sorry to hear some of your share the same pain and experience. He was 67 and far too young in my opinion.
