Picked up a '71 Lady Kenmore washer a few months ago. She's a dream! One owner, kept it covered indoors and wiped her down after each use. Clean as a whistle. Complete with manuals! Runs great, didn't need much of a once-over. Nice addtion to my collection. Once I've got my new laundry room all ready to go, will be sure to post some action pics/videos.

That's a gorgeous machine. Great find. Looks like it's right off the showroom floor. Will be really nice to see some video's of that beauty up and running when you get everything set up. |

Congratulations and beautiful. Love the multi-pushbutton controls and the mighty Vari-Flex agitator. And, so lucky to have all of the washer manuals and instruction guides. |

Thank you all for the wonderful comments -- it's been a while since I've been this active on the site. It's so nice to hear from all of you.
And have no fear, Christina, a wash-in is definitely in order -- hopefully this summer/fall. Just needing to get the laundry room set up. Painting now, plumbing soon, then hooking them all up. Would love it if you all could make the trek to NorCal! |

Noise Level: Our 1960 Model 80 was loud (as was the matching dryer) and I remember all the trademark belt-drive sounds to this day: The woo-woo during agitation; the rhythmic splashing of water when agitating at the LO water level setting; the suds return; the sound it made kicking over from drain to spin; the solenoids of the timed dispensers engaging; the out-of-balance buzzer, etc.
Was this Lady K one of the very quiet Kenmores? Seems I heard models from the 1970s that were impressively hushed. I recall some machines being labeled "Quiet Pak" or something like that. |

Great find Todd, a highly modified 1971 LKMW was my every day driver for about 25 years [ It has been in the appliance hospital for a few years under going a base-plate replacement and complete overhaul ].
The 71 was always my favorite of the three styles of garage-door LKs, the last style was the my 2nd choice.
Eugene, yes the 71 LKM was the first LKMW to have the narrow drive belt and and quiet-PAC motor pulley and motor mounts so it should be substantially quieter than earlier WP-KM washers.
On my modified 71 LKMW I used the tubs and base-plate from a 68 WP super capacity washer, a white all porcelain cabinet from a 64 KM 70 series washer, added a Suds-Saver system, AND modified the drive system [ using all stock WP parts ] so the machine spins at a little over 700 RPMs without affecting agitation and pumping speed.

Hi Harry, the agitator I used in the 71 LKM is the tall white WP Surgeulator, because my machine has the extra long agitator shaft, spin-tube, center-post etc there are only four agitators that WP ever made that fit these washers. The first machines with these huge tubs used a Bakelite straight vane in the KM versions and a Bakelite Surglator in the WP versions. Then WP switched to the white Polypropylene agitator and Sears switched to a tall Rotoswirl in either gold or white PP.
Even though I used this fast spinning washer for around 25 years I do not recommend making a Super Capacity WP BD washer spin this fast, because unless the load is perfectly balanced the machine will walk and vibrate. I have also added the pulley setup for 700 RPM spin on standard capacity WP built washers and this worked a lot better. I am currently doing a safire blue 1967 Whirlpool Imperial Mark 12 washer with this fast spin setup.
