Morning all!

Yesterday I took delivery of a brand new AEG L87680FL Washing machine & T75380AH2 Heatpump tumble dryer!

The washing machine is an 8kg 1600rpm beauty. It features an aquastop anti flood hose the noise of which takes sone getting used too. Also has steam, variable rinses up to 8! 3 levels of time management duvet, anti allergy, jeans and easy iron programmes as well as the usual. It's extremely quiet and handles out of balance loads with ease! I knew what to expect as my parents have a more basic model which is 3 years old.

Now the downfall. I bought this machine on the premise it would have the recirculatory jet. A feature I really wanted. Alas AEG have dropped on all models except the 9kg and 10kg models. They have however upped the water consumption by 20 litres and the sensors are good and I got a decent rinse level the first time I used it.

The dryer! I've been really excited to try the new Heatpump technology and it doesn't disappoint!

Getting used to a tumble dryer that sounds like a fridge will take some getting used to but I'm sure it will become the norm.

The first load I dried in it took about an hour and a half which wasn't attrocious but with Heatpump you compromise speed for efficency. I'm trying out the mixed quick programme as we speak.

No heat selections here, just the drying level from minimum to maximum.

I'm intregued to try the "reverse plus" option which helps with tangling by reversing more often.

Loads of programmes and you can select anti crease up to 90mins

Any questions shoot!

Videos on my YouTube in the link!

Morning Paul.

They're both exceptionally heavy and well built!

I think I made a good choice :-)

Forgot to mention the dryer has a double filter! One inside the other! Most bizarre!

Congratulations on the new set, that certainly looks nice! Not bad that they upped the water usage. Does this machine have an Allergen cycle?

I'm also interested in the sound of the dryer. I have a condenser dryer and a vented dryer, am curious how a dryer sounds as a fridge. lol

It even becomes better ofcourse with a Philips product added!! ;-)

Hoping to hear more of your experience with this set. Happy washing!

Louis

Hi Louis,

Yeah it does have the Anti Allergy cycle! Looking forward to trying that later.

Because it is a heatpump dryer it has a compressor in it so you hear the movement of the drum and then the buzzing of the chiller unit when it comes on now and again. Very odd!

I'm excited to try my philips iron too!

I'll have to download the manuals for these machines. Next time I need a washing machine it sure will be one with an allergy cycle. What I do miss on newer machines is a 60*C delicate cycle. Use that on my Miele now and then.

Lovely machines, you sure do go through enough of them!

What happened to the Panasonic?

Louis you can do duvet on 60 on my AEG which has an 800rpm spin so that's similar!

Boschexcel; tell me about it. We decided to buy a new set for in the house now and just have second hand machines in my laundry shed.

The panasonic was faulty irritated me. The matching dryer had awful reviews so decided to move it on and get something I can trust.

Oh I see! Can't beat a new matching set of machines! I was so excited when we got the Boschs, never had a matching set before!

I love how quiet the washer is! My next machine to replace the whirlpool will have to have an Inverter/Brushells motor!

If heat-pump dryers weren't so damn expensive here (GBP800 minimum) and we actually paid for our electricity*, I'd have had one in a flash!

*We've a 2.5KW solar system that, whilst not ideally placed on our roof, has meant we've not paid an electricity bill since 2012. All the power is fed back into the grid at 45.7c/KWhr but we only pay 15c/KWhr to buy back.

Fantastic for us guys in the UK with our wet weather but I can't see there being much call for them in Australia Chris?! Especially at that price!

Hey Darren,

Congratulations on the new pair. Hope they give years of trouble free washing. As you know I purchased the TOL AEG Protex pair three years ago now. They get used once a day during the week and about three or four times Sat and Sun and they've never missed a beat and I have never had one aborted spin. Even when washing a towelling dressing gown by itself.

Super quiet, wash and rinse very well, the extraction is great and a whole cotton load can be completed in under an hour when using the time manager options. If I'm not in a rush for anything I usually just let it decide how long it needs, so a cottons wash that starts out at 2hours 20mins usually drops to 1.15 within ten mins.

The dryer took a little getting used to after having a condenser model. The condenser dryer would get the clothes so hot there were many things I couldn't dry in it due to them shrinking. However, with the heat pump dryer everything is put in the dryer, including wool.

I try to get the washes and dries back to back on the weekend as after the first load the dryer remains warm so the next loads take a shorter time to dry. The bedding cycle is fantastic for sheets and covers without any balling occurring. I always use the sensor dry programmes and they have always been spot on. I've also found that things come out with very little creasing compared to my old dryer.

Are you enjoying them?

The DirectSpray is always the thing that is lacking on our Protex AEG (pretty basic one).
Though, results are always top notch (except for the occasional extra rinse needed).
By the way: Does your dryer have the new ÖkoFlow filter system? (The system with the double filter at the door but no filter in front of the heat pump any more.)

I really like the large red display. But Im amazed at how it just jumps to 1600 rpm, no foolish balancing act !!

I wanna try that dryer !!

Hey Steve!

Good to hear from you!

My parents have had there Protex since January 2012 which is the reason I settled for these as my long term machines. I didn't think when they got it it could live up to the AEG 74640 it replaced after 8 years of sterling service but I really liked it.

I've had so many machines in the last year and with a few issues with them I thought enoughs enough for the daily machines we need new.

I love how quiet it is, how well it balances anything! Washing, rinsing and spinning are all great! I'm just disappointed as I was under the impression it would have the jet from there write up. I'm tempted to e-mail and try my luck.

Heatpump dryer is amazing. If dries evenly and quietly, granted it takes time, but I'll be thanking it when the electricity bill comes in.

Henene4: yes it does have a double filter which is cool!

Jetcone: they're beautiful looking machines aren't they! :-) the spin really means business! Things come out very dry!

I wonder why they got rid of the jet on the lower models? I knew the all white models didn't have jets but I thought the silver display ones all did? I bought my mum and dad the model down from mine in 2013 which looks exactly like yours but has the silver door 1600, 8KG. There's has the jet on it.

It's a shame they have put the all plastic door on the dryers too.. Mine has the glass door which I much prefer.

Love the way the final spin is determined by how much laundry is in the machine too. Sometimes mine goes from distribute straight up to 1600 for three mins if there's not too much in there. Other times it very slowly ramps up over 2 mins, then i think hits 1200 for 3 mins then 1600 for 2 -3 mins before finishing. Other times it goes up to 800-100 for a min or two, then stops, re-distributes and then slowly ramps up to full spin.

The only thing I miss from the older AEG's on these models are the different speeds of the drum during washing - but everything has always come out spotless from my machine without ever pre treating so I guess it's not needed..

Regarding the Panasonic washer: What was wrong with it?

Steve: I'll bet it's a cost cutting exercise. Like Zanussi you could only get it on the TOL. You cant even get a Jetsystem zanussi in the new range :-(

Regarding tumbles: they have brpught back my favourite double speed tumbles on this range. Slow then fast then slow again, with some distrubutions too! Apparently the cottons Eco cycle does some long distribution tumbles :-)

Rolls: the pumps needed replacing and the jets kept getting blocked. We had planned to buy a Heatpump brand new but the panasonics dryer reviews were hideous. I was annoyed that the nachine had gone wrong so soon so I spoke to hubby and said can we buy new and I'll promise to keep them! The wash house down the garden will be for my 2nd hand stuff!

I looove this new set you have Darren, so very sexy lol Since we are moving house soon I want to buy a brand new machine when we do but I will keep the Simpson. I love it but have a hankering for something brand new lol I like all things Electrolux *pic below* so might get one of their new models which look quite nice or branch out to the AEG's. Also considering Bosch.

Heatpump dryers are becoming more of an item to buy in our markets but are very very expensive. I personally would probably get the use out of one because I like to use a dryer more often than not (blasphemous in a tropical country i know lol) My friends just purchased the Miele one and it does a great job but I agree the 'fridge' noise weirded us all out when we heard it but all part of the Heatpump experience lol

Shame about the jet but I think from what you have said it does an amazing job regardless but I understand why you would feel a bit ripped off lol (i certainly would lol).

Congratulations and hope they serve you for many years to come :-D

I'm happy with my choice though 😁

Where was that AEG machine built? Years ago, AEG were made in Germany, but that was prior to E-lux getting them.

It was made at the electrolux factory in Italy :-) they were assembled in Germany up until 2003/2004 just using electrolux parts.

Recirculating Jet System

You wont miss what you haven't got. *LOL*

Our Oko-Lavamat has the system and it is just one more thing to go wrong IMHO. It hasn't yet but would much prefer the machine topped up with enough water in the first place without resorting. Am not particularly fond of the first load after the machine has been sat sitting using that same water which has been sitting in the sump. AEG claims the washer pumps out at the start of each new cycle but you just can't be sure can you?

The other worry is if your previous load was darks, denims, or something that bled color, and or shed excessively some of that is going to become sprayed over the next wash.

Very nice set you've got there, am sure it will give every satisfaction for years to come.

Hey Darren

They look like great machines!

I was just wondering.....what is the dryer like with bedding? Does it go into a ball? What difference does the reverse plus make? With my Miele T1 heatpump (TKG440WP) it is one of the worst dryers I have ever used for balling bedding into a tangled mess. Apparently it's a known issue and I have had Miele out to install the update that Germany came up with. It now reverses exactly every 5 minutes but only for 10 seconds. I have to be honest, I don't know how often it reversed before or what the update was exactly. My dryer does not have any "reverse plus" option or bedding cycle. It does a good job of drying everything else but the jury's still out on whether the update has fixed the problem.

Enjoy your sickie ;-)
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thought i'd jump in re the balling up ( I have the TOL AEG heat pump model, similar to Darrens, just glass door and large, touchscreen display ) There is a bedding cycle that works really well and has never balled up any of the bedding. Strangely if I put bedding on a regular cottons cycle it will almost always ball up within minutes. I think the drum turns slower on the bedding cycle and reverses more frequently.

Awesome looking set!  I can't get over how quiet that 1,600 spin is!  I bet the fabric is near dry when finished.

Is this washer a direct drive motor or a belt drive?

Very impressive!

Thanks for the videos.
