Haven't posted on here for ages so thought I'd show you my latest acquisition a Servis Supertwin 108. Been after one of these for a while so snapped it up for £10.50 but its not without its issues. It came from a house that had been bought to do up and rent out. Overall the condition is not too bad - a bit of rust on the casing and the drain hose is a bit stiff. Its missing the fill pipe but I have tracked down a nipple so will attach to an old hotpoint hose I have.

I should have guessed there might be issues with it as there was a much newer spin dryer in the house but its no fun if its not a challenge. Once I'd got it home I noticed that it was missing the casing screws on the back so knew that someone had had a go repairing. I could see the spin pump belt was missing and the pump itself had seized so that might explain the spin dryer. Should be able to sort that out hopefully and treat the rust on the top of the spin can. The spinner is a bit off centre so will see why that is - possibly the mounts but not sure as yet. The other issue with the spinner is the mechanism on the inner lid is broken so will look to do a Mathew and remove that.

The main problem with the machine is the spigot the drain hose in the wash tub connects to at the bottom has rusted off which I guess may have turned the machine into just a work surface - it was still in the kitchen which wasn't fitted. I'm sure I read somewhere that another AW member had a similar issue. I have a solution to sorting this out using a 35mm tank connector and some Plumbers Mate so will tackle that soon and that should bring the washtub back to life.

I have plugged it in and the spinner sounds nice and smooth and the agitator works well too so fingers crossed I should get it up and running soon. It has a great whiff of old style Ariel too.

Here are some pics for now taken in the washer holding facility!
:)

Hi Steve

thats what i ended up doing with the philips twin tub, exactly as your doing with a few inches of 22mm copper pipe and was able to fit the sump hose direct to it.

Of course i couldn't condone removing a safety device, such as a second lid. (gazes innocently heavenwards).

All the best,

Mathew

Congratulations on snapping up one of these lovely machines, my Supertwin 100 is one of my favourite machines. It might have been me that you were thinking of regarding the wash tub outlet as mine had a hole it in where it had corroded through - I suspect this may be a weak spot with these machines. Fortunately a touch of Isopon sorted mine out.

Your idea of the tank connector is not bad but it may be better to try and adapt a sink outlet fitting instead as that may give you a closer fit to the bottom of the wash tub.

Great catch anyway

Al

Another lovely twin tub, I have always liked the stainless steel deck on these, what a practical idea aswell as looking good, doesn't sound much to get it up and running, Chestermike swears by them aswell, he has been boiling his be-bellows in them for years :-)

My mum had this machine. Went for years but finally went when she finally went automatic. The twinnie would be out all day twice a week. I remember you had to fill the spinner right to the top to rinse! Then I think it was a spin rinse until the water was clear? Was this from Ebay?

Ah Al - yes it must have been you - but I'm guessing yours was not in such bad condition as this. You can see that someone has had a go on it previously. I've actually got a basin outlet in the shed so I will have a look and see if that might work too. The only snag with the tank connector is that it is a bit thick so I may end up with a pool of water to mop out of the bottom but on first look it should fit into the recess.

That second lid seems totally pointless on the spinner as the brake is so effective - scarily so! Don't think I'll miss it although I will preserve it. Yes it was from eBay.

Gary - are you implying that the only thing stainless with Mikes washing is the deck of the twinnie lol

:)

Nothing wrong with a good boilwash although the mother of all boil washing techniques must now go to the newly crowned Philips Toptwin with the jet geyser rolling boil gusher!!

Lovely machine Steve, nothing that cant be worked on, fannys integrated twinny is used daily for boiling the cafe cloths etc...

And you are totally a man after my own heart - nothing like strategically placed product to get the washer masses whipped up into a Fairy Snow foam party!!

Haha. I'd forgotten about Fanny's machine. Love the pussy sitting on the lid - they like nice warm spots. Don't think I'll be going as far as integrating mine but I'm sure I'll get her back up and running.

The twinnie has joined the "in-house" queue of machines that are awaiting attention - I need to stop getting more and get fixing as well as getting the launderarium finished. Just too cold at the mo brrr.

Do you happen to have a Coronet in your collection? Not sure if I'm aware of any around

S :)

Hi Steve.

Great that you have found a 108. After the Model 100, the 108 is a big fave of mine.
Also a childhood machine of mine, as Mr Briggs at number 8 had one. His replaced a Supertwin Mk1 Model 29, though it only lasted a few years as his age dictated that he finally relented and got an automatic, in the form of a Hotpoint Microprofile circa 1987/88.

Your machine looks in lovely condition - heres to many years happy spertwin-ning :-)

Paul
