Hello All:

I need some help with the replacement of a leaky fill valve for a Superba 20 portable dishwasher. The original part # is D- 240016, and the replacement valve from Whirlpool is #4171000. Problem is, the replacement solenoid and outlet are off to the sides, which impinges on the drain valve. The original fill valve has the outlet coming straight out, with the solenoid on top. Is there a straight valve made? Do I have the right part #? Should I just try to rebuild the original with new gaskets?

Try reorienting...

The body of the valve by removing the 4 screws that hold it to the bracket and move the coil and outlet to a better position. Whirlpool only provides that valve now to replace all the single and dual coil valves. It seems strange that the drain and fill valve should be giving you a problem. The drain valve was mounted to a bracket that was in turn screwed in to the crossmember just about in the middle of it and should provide plenty of clearance for you. Maybe someone moved it at one time?

HI Steve:

Thanks for the response. The drain valve is in the original position, just that the original fill valve was in one straight line- opening, screen, and exit. The new one is at a 90 degree angle, so the solenoid hits the drain valve. No worries. The gasket where the screen is was dried out, and the screen itself filthy. I changed the gasket, soaked the screen in vinegar, and the valve is like new. No leaks. Best dishwasher KitchenAid ever put out!
