first time I've seen these machines

was a bit surprised when I saw the pics that the washer had a straight vane agi in it....thought it would have been one of the first DA machines. also probably one of the last models that had a manual clean lint filter

Unusual control panel.  One of the Toyota laundry pair?  It's a 1-speed washer.

Nice styling on that console - not a bit of woodgrain!  I don't think I've seen this one before, either.

Wow, I've never seen anything like these before. They must be a Toyota pair. I see it has a Delicate Cycle option, so if the motor in the washer is one speed, I am guessing that cycle runs in similar fashion to a Maytag FabricMatic machine. Love that it is standard capacity with my favorite of KM agitators.

Toyota?

That does "a Toyota pair" mean?

I've heard that Toyota dealers would give away Sears washers and dryers, with a vehicle purchase.

Surely Gordon will know exact specs and details, but these odd panels were often used in contract and builder sales.  A childhood friend of my mother's bought a mobile home to live in while their ancient farmhouse was torn down and new home was built and a very similar set was included in the package. Very similar panels as these.  They ended up keeping the KM set from the "trailer" and used them in the new house.

Woodgrain versions of this style are pictured in the Sears Kenmore Builders Catalog:

Builder Model Kenmore's

While apparently Toyota dealers gave away some similar KM W&D pairs none were made exclusively for Toyota, true they took the most ugly KMs ever and Toyota [ never known for great looking cars either ] did use these for promotional purposes, but as Greg mentioned these were popular builder models in the early 80s.
