odd place to develop a leak. It must have been a factory fault on the weld lines. Those tubs usually have a heavy coat of enamel inside and out. My '57 was used to death, the grandmother went blind and could only use that machine because she knew the controls from memory so the grandson kept replacing the bearings , I think he said he did it 3 times since the 70's. That's a lot of washing. And now it needs new bearings again. But the tub and enamel looks fine. Well fortunate for you these slant fronts keep popping up like Maytags, they are survivors, you'll find a parts donor.

Hi Jed, I would love to see your collection sometime. Inlet valve for the 57 could be rebuilt unless the body is cracked also we have new water pumps for those if you need one.
The holes in the Outer tub were actually very common around weld points it's very hard to get porcelain enamel to adhear to the weld areas so this happens frequently, you can usually just fill the holes and seal them with epoxy or RTV silicone rubber. |
