Hey guys many of you may remember a few months back a big deal about a collectors estate in Richmond. Well, the family is trying to sell the estate and the remainder is getting close to going in the garbage. CHEAP prices... we're talking almost giving them away. Come save them! I have an eye on the maple RCA in number 9, I may have to go back for it! If interested, send me a private message and I'll give you the sellers number.

There are a few more that I missed but you get the idea. Tons of sets that if not rescued get tossed. Please help save them! I can't take them all!

2 of them Hans... Going in the garbage if you don't save them. Original post picture 10 and reply 1 picture 2. That 2nd one has to be the largest one they ever made.

This thread reminds me of something from my childhood. Hale's Department Store in downtown San Jose had a sale to clear out all of the televisions they had taken in as trade-ins. They ran a big ad in the newspaper...all of the sets were priced at $5.00 & $10.00. The parents of the 2 kids across the street bought each kid a set, a beautiful GE console and a big Admiral table model with a bakelite cabinet. Of course each set did not work so their parents called the TV repairman. He gave both sets the death sentence...they needed picture tubes. I don't recall what happened to the TV's but I do remember they did not get repaired. Even though they remained on the blink, I was so jealous they both had televisions in their bedrooms.

For theses prices it's worth a road trip paul. You could have an entire collection for less than what a higher end vintage set costs. There are some that are very restoreable and some that could work for parts.

Wow, a Dumont Royal Sovereign! I wonder where the trim and parts went? These were the largest direct view B&W sets ever made, with a 30" crt. These used the bonded metal to glass picture tubes and Dumont had a terrible time keeping the air out...they ended up retrofitting most with a smaller tube, a 27" if I recall. -C

Glad you're doing better, Joe. You always have something interesting to say.

I remember seeing ads for those huge DuMonts in old National Geographics in the school library. A screen that size was still hard to imagine in the Seventies.

I have the Motorola in the original post, pic #4.  I'd love to get my hands on that one, as mine is missing the UHF insiginia in the center (and it'd be nice to have a backup tube, since it's from '53).  There are a lot of nice looking sets posted!  Thanks for sharing!

Well if anyone "up North" goes down there to get any of these I would definitely be interested in a couple or more.

i know its heresy, but some of those would make some cool fish tanks.. i have a picture of the den in our new house from 1958 with a fanatastic tv set on 4 long tapered legs. too small to see what brand etc, but very cool..

Like ol' TV's but no place to put them and really can't use them.Back in the days when analog broadcasts and cablecasts were still used-these old sets could be put to work. You need a digital convertor,or a VCR,DVD,laserdisc player with a modulator.I have no room at my place-its been invaded by vacuum cleaners!Would be sad to see these go-but wished I could help-but really can't- Remember those Sat and afternoon cartoon and other show watching(Leave it to Beaver,Father Knows Best,Mickey Mouse Club) on sets like this. The orginal Sci-fi,horror show "The Thing" looks its best on an old BW TV!

Sure, going back one last time in 2 weeks, I have a final wish list. Then it's all his.

I would rather have one of those older sets working-use it to see old shows on-but use it as a base for the newer flatscreen TV.Best of BOTH worlds!
