Hello fellow appliance fans! I am in the process of getting a Sunbeam Vista Mixmaster. I don't know much about this model....do any of you? How does it differ from the Model 12, other than in appearance? What was Sunbeam's positioning of this mixer on the appliance market? Can any of you mixer experts out there help fill me in on this unique appliance?

I've always wondered about the origins of the Vista Mixmaster myself... Funnily enough, the model number is V-14, so I guess Sunbeam was superstitious... No model 13 Mixmaster!  LOL

I don't know exactly when, but the TOL Wards Signature stand mixers were rebadged Sunbeam Vistas at one point.

I can't help but wonder if the Vista was the 'in-between' design that didn't quite make it when they were transitioning from the bullet-shaped Model 12s to the MM style Mixmaster.   Mix-Finder dial of the Vista mixers is very close to the ones in the MM series (and if anyone ever sees just a dial, please let me know...I need a couple... LOL)

One thing I do know for sure - the early Vista Mixmasters weren't seen in my neck of the woods.  They did seem to re-appear in the mid-70s and seemed to be an exclusive with K-Mart here in Canada.   Those models didn't look anything like the original V14 series, though.

Vista Series

The Sunbeam Vista Series was created to offer certain retailers and alternative line of products having Sunbeam quality and different styling to their main product line. Ivar Jepson had retired from Sunbeam around 1963 and objected to Sunbeams plans for having a secondary line of products. He stressed that the company should make single types of appliances that are better than the competition. True Value Hardware Stores contacted Sunbeam about having new products that were different than what everyone else was selling for a slightly lower cost to attract customers to their network of stores. That was the incentive for Sunbeam to create the Vista line of appliances: mixers, percolators, waffle iron, clothes iron, blender, electric knife etc. The first picture is the V 14 Mixmaster. The second picture is that of Sunbeam's model EM mixmaster--was also available w/o a stand or bowls as model EMS. The model EM mixer was also Ward's finest mixer until the Vista line was created. The third picture was the Montgomery Ward mixer that was a variation of the V 14 mixmaster. Montgomery Ward sold this mixer from 1965 until about 1976.

Just got a taupe mixmaster model 12. Absolutely love it! Never wanted a stand mixer bc I didn't like the lack of control but now I wouldn't go back. Totally changed the wAy I cook, mainly desserts but that's important too! Loved the history of them..
