I actually know someone who's mom had one of these pre timeline Norge washers. She said that she remembered how big a load it held for the day. It was like twice what any toploader would hold back then. I think Norge made these from right after the war till the very early 50's. Then they came out with the old Norge timeline washers that were so popular. The toploader was a big step down in capacity from the front load one.

Actually, Norge did not make this machine. Everything under the nameplate was made by Bendix. It held a lot of laundry, but it was a bolt down machine, like the early Bendix machines, and had a low spin speed which left laundry with more water in it than a wringer. It did get Norge's name in the fast-growing automatic washer market until they had a washer of their own to market.
Thanks to Jeff, the service manual is available from the online literature library.
No, I actually never saw it. She just told me about when she was a kid and her mom had one of them. She is in her 60's now, so that would be about right.
