Hi all,

Some of you may know that my first attempt at repairing this machine failed but I'm not one to give up that easily!

Over the weeks I've been accumulating new parts for it and during the long weekend, the rebuild took place.

Well done James - I'm looking forward to the end result for this after all your hard work.

I sorted the shed out a bit more over the weekend so here's a pic of my 15792 (next to the 9605 and the 96702 hiding in the box). It needs a service as the brake makes a terrible squealing noise when it is washing as it is not holding the tub in place.

S :)

Plumbed the old girl in this evening and gave it a quick rinse. However, I have a dilemma with the drain hose, because it is the original rubber hose it isn't flexible enough to go into the standpipe under the sink. What should I do? Keep the original hose fitted and have it drain into the sink or fit a plastic hose to drain it into the standpipe? As far as I am aware, numerous top loader installations had the drain hose draining into the sink. Can anybody confirm?

I'll push her further back on Thursday once the drain hose dilemma is sorted out and all that will be left to do is a good polishing. I will be getting a replacement lid very soon.

James.

Hi James

I prefer to have it emptying into the sink as you can see what is going on - makes it all a bit more interesting. Is it the hose that you cut to fit with the elbow like this?

S :)

Hi Steve,

Yes I suppose it does make it a bit more interesting. It doesn't get in the way and it looks much more acceptable to have exposed over the corrugated plastic hoses.

I assume it can be cut to put an elbow in it but I suppose that was done by the person installing the machine. I think all top loaders came with the elbow to do this but most of them were thrown away.

James.

Well done James on bringing this lovely machine up again, this series of Hotpoints are my favourite machine by them, as you say simple but well engineered and very purposeful.
I hope it is a real pleasure for you

BTW
I would have the rubber hose into the sink its great to see what comes out and you get the great smell of the washing powder plus your sink drain will be kept clean.

Well done James, you stuck with and made it work, not for the fainthearted pulling out those heavy vitreous enamel tubs, what was the condition of the outer tub? looks squeeky clean now, great to see the shiny heater..

Steve, did you cut the pipe or has it a metal tube on the bendy part?

Oh Lord Pasty ya could do ya smalls in the sudz save solution!!Lavely!!

Hose

Hi Mike

The hose came with 2 bits with a bend - one longer, one shorter and the plastic elbow. The drawing on the back shows the combinations of options although I'm sure you couldn't get the bends as tight or as neat as they illustrate

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments! I am getting so much joy out of this machine. Here she is pushed in and hooked up ready for work. The drain hose is just right.

James.

Respect!

Blimey... I shall be studying your posts carefully - unless you want to come over and do a 1709/10? ;)

Well done James

can't beat the satisfaction at the end of a project like this. Enjoy your washes, and a lovely clean sink, you certainly do look very happy with your new hotpoint.
I spy the old hotpoint washerdryer out in the yard ready for disposal.

All the best too with your last few weeks at college.

Mathew

Thanks Mathew! Yeah that's the remains of an old WD62.

It looks amazing James, I’ve just bought a 15792 and it’s great but the thermostat is broken so I need to try and work out what parts. Need to replace.
