This auction is for clearing out a Frigidare (by General Motors)repair/parts store in continous use since the 1940's.

Located in Mississippi seller states his store/warehouse sustained NO damage due to Katrina, and has lots of parts for various Frigidaire appliances ranging from washers/dryers to ranges, etc all original manufacturer, and dating from the 1940's to 1980's. All up for sale.

Seller also has a MIB 1947 Fridigare washer and dryer going as well.

Someone needs to high tail it down to Long Beach, MS and see what is what. Unlike the guy in PA, this seems like a true treasure trove (well for those who like GM/Frigidaire), and is truly up for sale with no nonesense.

Anyone willing to take one for the team?

L.

WOW, that is AWESOME!! I hope someone grabs this, especially with the ultra-rare 1947 Frigidaire set!! I can't believe it hasn't been used!

Calling Mark (lightedcontrols), where are you?

I'm thinking one could prolly make over time a good amount from reselling the vintage parts, provided they are in good conditon. After all it's not like one can go to the local ACE hardware and find these parts anymore. Could even put up a small website... Hmmmmmm.... I'm thinking.......

Personally I think it's better if all of these parts stay in the club...we would certainly be stocked for life in case something happens to one of our machines!!

Well as one does not have any vintage Frigidaire appliances, yet,the rebadged Kenmore dishwasher wonder if the man has any Frigidaire ironer parts. Don't own the ironer yet, but one neve knows does one?

Is the seller including the washer and dryer with this auction? Or does one have to deal for those separately?

We shouldn't be so greedy. *LOL* Why deprive some poor soul of parts for their vintage Frigidaire? Especially if one can earn a modest 150% mark-up on the transaction? *LOL* (Hey, a girl has to eat and pay bills ya know! *LOL*)

Wow, that is great! But the seller states:

"P.S. Available also is a antique 1947 Frigidaire washer & dryer, which was 1st year of mfgr."

How do we know its MIB?

Also we should get the model #'s to confirm. The WJ-60 (1947), WK-60 (1948) and WL-60 (1949) do look rather similar.

I am going to call the guy (Jim) and go there this weekend if he let's me.

I have an idea

Westytoploader has a good idea. Keep the parts in the club, to help us all out that may need parts. How about a dutch auction?
Everyone that is interested in bidding put some money into a pot. Than one person places a bid for the auction. Can someone take that responsibility? I may be willing provided everyone can be on the honor system and come through with their pledge bid.

Post# 123698 , Reply# 12   4/21/2006 at 15:46 (6,578 days old) by westytoploader ()

Good luck Steve...if this goes will you will have your first Frigidaire Unimatic!!! YAY!!!

And a 40's Frigidaire no less, even more fun!

One of the reasons for keeping the stash in the club is that if someone who has a Frigidaire washer or dryer that needs an important part finds the site and asks for help, we will be able to provide them with that part instead of saying "parts are NLA, good luck finding one..."

Just so everyone knows, this seller does NOT take PayPal. It's cash or cashier's check. In other words, "money talks..... walks".

Wanted to point this out in case anyone was thinking of bidding but using PayPal.

Even though have no use for vintage Frididaire parts, am willing to contribute to "pot". Provided everything is on the up and up of course! *LOL*

Steve if you go down, could you take some snaps and post? Would be interesting to see just what the seller is offering, including the W&D.

Best of luck!

I will be going to 1608 26th Avenue in Gulf Port, MS.

Pics are a must. I spoke with Jim in MS, for about 20 mins this evening. Very nice older fellow. He is retiring and want's to get rid of all he has as far as appliances. I asked about the Unimatic. They both are in bad shape. SO, NO MIB. He said a lot of rust. I will take pics and post. Since I am so close, I don't mind doing a bid and then "GIVING" members what they may need if the cause arises. He said a lot of Stove and Refrigerator parts. I asked about W/D and he said, yes, some. SO, I will see. He claims he is 2 blocks from the beach. SO, no hurricane damage, YEA Right. The place is a total devistation, Jeff and I have seen it.

I will be there around 2:00 PM 04/22/2006.

Will keep all posted.

Auction Inquiry

Steve,
Do I take it you have placed a bid?
Good luck on your trip and I will be looking forward to photos also.

Any more thoughts about my idea to have a "community pot" to place a group bid so we don't let this slip away.

I did e mail the seller Friday and asked him if I could give him a parts list for parts I'm interested in. The seller said he could check his inventory for me. So if anyone else has some parts requests the seller could do the same for you.

Rich

To Be Fair

launderess's profile picture
Would it not be better until Steve reports back in after his trip to see what is in stock? We don't want that poor old man getting tons of part list requests and or making more work than required. For one thing the man may not put the two together and think the high level of interest is from many people all willing to bid. Not that I doubt members would bid against each other, the seller does not know that.

Softee, softee catchee monkey *wink*

Description on E-Bay is too vague. Would be a shame if someone won the auction only to discover the majority of parts were for stoves and refrigerators-----unless of course that is what they are after. Would be nice if there were at least a partial list of the things being auctioned (besides the dangling carrot of the '47 Frigidaires).

....so many times....

...I have gone the distance only to find a very few of the washer/dryer parts left. When there are a few w/d parts, they are usually the springs or parts that are still available from other members. I would not bid unless I had seen exactly what is available. I'm eagerly awaiting Steve's return. Mark

Hello fellow members of this wonderful same interest of JOY.
Jeff and I got there right a 2 like I had told the owner. All I can say at this point is OMG.

Timer's
Timer Motors
Pulsators
Books
Service Manuels
TechTalk catalogs
Fabric Softner Dispensers
Transmissions (Only saw for skinny Mini)
Switches
Knobs
Pressure Switches
Spare Washer Tubs (perferated)
Some tools (Frigidaire)
Lint Chaser rings
Caps for the agitators
Original parts galore!!!!!!!!!!!!! All in their boxes.
Ton's of appliances, but only 4 W/D. (Just trashed everything last week) - I was dying - literaly, sweat, dialated pupils etc.

Jim and his Brother Paul were exceptionaly nice folks. The story goes, their father was the local Frigidaire dealer starting in 1940. He was ill in 1985, passed and Jim took over the business. Still with a plethera of customers in that area of MS, mostly Frigidaire GM customers, they maintained inventory to service all these customers. Jim is ready to retire now. However will still on a part time basis still service appliances. The show room was long gone, since WCI. They hate it, we talked for 4 hours and WCI was the sour subject.

These fellows have no idea what they have in their now called warehouse. Very dusty, but yet all is sorted by part #. It was really amazing.

Now they also have:
A 1930's something ABC wringer, very cool
Flaire Stove
Beautiful Refrigerators by GM
Some dishwashers not of a vintage however
Tons of spare parts everywhere that are not labeled.
Dashers like crazy

What their wish is is to have someone who can use or sell the parts on the as need basis, then may be interested in what's left over as far as appliances.

Ok guys, I am going to be Frank. We came home with 4, that are not listed on the auction, nor are/were they a part of the auction! That's why I felt a trip was in order, since I live so close.

1 WJ-60A serial number 71E283 (Unimatic)
1 TJ-60 serial number 15SA995 (Dryer)

1 DI-57 (Control tower dryer)

and a 1-18 (Cannot read the model I think WC-I?)

Guess what, They all WORK just great. Cosmetics are in order however.

Ok here is the worst. We came thru Biloxi and were crying due to the distruction we encountered from Katrina. I will try to post some of what we saw in a bit.

These folks are real people, and are wonderful to talk to. They know it all.

Steve

Steve,

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT HAUL!!!! That WJ-60 is quite a find...if I remember correctly it makes the second 1947 Frigidaire known in existence! And another 1957 Filtrator as well--simply amazing! Definitely will make some fun projects; they all appear to be in good shape.

What kinds of parts did you grab? And please tell me you took the yellow Frigidaire refrigerator with the power door opener! ;-)

Don't mean to be all over the board with things, but the all the pictures of the parts will not post on the site. I will be happy to email anyone the shots we took.

there were (3) 45' shelves, double sided full of parts as mentioned above in original boxes. Tons of washer parts. It is a wonderful gold mine there. I will watch this auction as necessary and if I do not win, then be happy to assist whoever does, again, since I live so close.

Your Unimatic is also a "cabinet-tub" model like mine...when we ran that sheet load in it last December, did you put your hand on the front of the machine as it was throwing the water out?

Not to mention the incredible sound it makes as the water flies out and crashes against the sides of the cabinet...

Seriously, only post links to auctions as my way of helping the group. Glad to be of some service in my own humble way.

Ok Steve, when I said go down to MS and "take one for the team", did not mean for someone to "take for themselves"! *LOL*

What a haul! Congrats on your find, well worth the trip I'd say. Thank you also for "taking one for the team" and seeing what was what, and taking/posting snaps. Are you going to go for broke on the auction or have a cut off point?

I'm thinking now that you have posted pictures and described what is for sale, various lurking sharks may begin to circle. If anyone in the group is truly serious about WestyTopLoader's and MustangMan's suggestion that a pool is established to keep the parts "in the family", there are only 5 or so days left to work out the details.

OTHO the winning club bidder could sell of some of the appliances that are in working order (with a promise of spares if they are in the warehouse) to recoup some of his/her money. In all honesty it might be a tad more economic to perhaps sell off the better/in good conditon appliances to help finance keeping the spare parts. After all it is going to take some space to store those parts, and not to mention time to catalog the entire inventory. Just a thought.

L.

Oh, Steve - what great finds - so great that you were able to get there quickly. Well worth the trip I would say.... Considering the devastation there it is amazing that nothing in that warehouse was damaged.

I have seen some close up pics of the devastation and it does make you cry. Our church has "partnered" with Our Lady of the Gulf Parish in Bay St. Louis and we are collecting contributions and equipment to rebuild the church and school - there is NOTHING left. I have never seen anything like it. I know that over the years Mississippi has had a bad rap for a lot of things, but having had the opportunity to work there for a few years, I can tell you that I met some of the kindest, most generous people there and many are still my friends. I was overwhelmed with hospitality and friendship - they do not deserve this disaster.

NOW on to the business at hand. I think pooling our resources is a swell idea as long as we can get some of the parts needed to keep our Frigidaire washers running. I am having a terrible time finding parts needed for my W-2 and my WIC-A. The W-2 needs new bearings, an agitator arm and new bellows. The WIC-A needs a new wheel clutch, new rollers and snubber ring. It is probably also a good idea to keep an extra bellows on hand...

Luckily I was able to get a few lint filters here as I broke mine the first time I used the WIC=A (rapping it against the sink to clean it.....)

Anyway, keeping the parts in the family is a good idea -- who else is game????? It is a good opportunity for us to help each other!!!

Answers to Questions and some more stuff

mayken4now's profile picture
Austin (westytoploader): Did not get any parts, as they are included in the auction. Would love to have bought the yellow refrigerator, but no room for that. Yes, I felt the water against the cabinet on your machine when spinning.

Peter (peteski50): Yes, that is a Hamilton made dryer. (Thanks Bob appnut)

Bob (appnut): Speaking with the two gentlemen, they concluded that in the last 2 week, over 8 box trucks to the dump/krusher as we call it. Many times referring to "AND MOST OF THE MACHINES were in perfect working and cosmetic order" "We just needed to start getting rid of things". Yea, I had to leave the building and smoke 3 cigs and sip some whisky to deal with it LOL! Idea, go find where that krusher is, he said because of the hurricane etc, it take 4 hours just waiting with one truck of items. So one can only imagine (if you have seen this place) that those machines are in a holding tank for now.)

Glenn (DADoES): I am certain that you will get your part if you need one and it is available in inventory.

Launderess: No, the cut off point has been decided, aint gonna go broke.

angus: Don't know who else is in the game, but I am certain that all will work out and the club members will fare well. I could not be part specific, as I am not that well versed on what is what and what is for which Frigidaire machine????????????? It will have to be catalouged and inventoried for usage and availability.

SteveD(steved): There were some dishwasher parts, clueless as to which ones.

Joe(jamman_98): I only saw one or two dishwashers, not of a vintage era. Not brand new either.

kennyGF (Goatfarmer): We did not go there with pricing for the fridges. I know they are all for sale. What Joe (the owner)said to me is: "We hope that whoever gets our inventory, will want these machines at the time of the sale being over, we would like to offer it to them first. They will have a pirce attached to them. I am sure by weeks end, any money will do with these guys, or they would have already got rid of them. I commanded them not to trash anything else in the entire building, in fact, we dug the dumpster some and pulled things back to the shelves!!!!!!!!!

This has been an exciting unusual weekend for me. I am blessed to have a wonderful companion and partner like Jeff who will put up and support all my bull S**t with my hobby! (Oh just kidding, he loves the machines and all that too)

I have never done anything like this before, but at least I had the experience of discovering what some of the members here felt like upon a find like this.

I will be looking for much support, as the only Frigidaire machines I have worked on are the 1-18's Washer & Dryer. After that, I aint no good dah'lin.

Thanks for all the nice congrat's and cheers. You all are wonderful.

Steve (guess I can change myscreen name, no longer just kenmore and maytag)hehehe

Up for grabs

I opted to cancel my bids. Time and space are not in my favor, just found out that the warehouse I would have used will not be available. It is not possible at this point to go further, but will assist whoever may win.

Steve

Steve, I'm glad the 3 smokes and some whiskey helped. I literally am torn up inside and wanna sob. It seems the laundry stuff is the first to go always. Why can't they do the stoves, fridges first. Another chance lost for a potential 1000 rpm+ Frigidaire I crave so badly. Thank you again for all you did this weekend.

Auction Help

The bidding is lower now and time is running out.

O.K. I mention this again. Do we want to pool our money? With mayken4now - Steve out of the auction do we want to lose this. I have to go out of town and may not be close to a computer to organize this. That's what I was trying to do last week. WE NEED TO FIND SOMEONE WHO HAS A WAREHOUSE. I DON'T. STEVE HAD WRITTEN TO ME EARLIER SAYING HE HAD A STORAGE ISSUE AND WAS ANTICIPATING HE WOULD BE OUT BIDDED. I APPRECIATE HIS EFFORTS IN TRYING TO GET A WAREHOUSE. SOMEONE ON HERE HAS SAID IF YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE. I HATE TO SEE PEOPLE ON HERE LATER COMPLAINING WE LOST THIS AUCTION. I'll try to get to a computer at the local library in the town I'm going to for business to see what the latest is.

Frigilton Dryer

Congratulations, Steve.

A friend's mom had one of the early dryers like that, except it had a timer and a thermostat. It was very weird to watch because to make it look different from a Hamilton, the window position in the door is reversed. Instead of seeing clothes tumble over and down, you see them at the bottom part of the drum where they kinda land and start going back up. Even though it had the lights like a Hamilton, it was not an enjoyable dryer to watch; too strange and we won't even get started about how strange too strange for me would have to be.

I am so glad to hear that all of the Fridgedaire parts etc were saved. Did the ABC wringer washer also go to the member that purchased all of this? I would be interested in that if it was for sale. "Em, how would I get that back to Illinois?"

The washer doesn't look like a 47 to me. Looks more like a 48.If it isa 47, it was a mid-year switch from the white perforated tub like Robert's to the black solid tub.

lesto:

Hi, Glad you like my Unimatic I bought on Saturday of last week.

Was wondering, since you are an expert (and I am certainly not on Unimatics) on Unimatics, could you post of pic of your machine so we can compare.

thanks!
