Picking your brains. About 2 months ago I found an unused WU1000. I love a reverse rack Maytag dishwasher so I grabbed it. The interior is mint complete with unopened packet of directions, jet dry sample and so on. There is pitting on the chrome on the control panel and from what I can tell it is all one piece. I am not locked into touch pads (actually I prefer buttons) and will not install this with the pitting on it, it's not horrible but it would make me crazy.

What to do, can another panel be interred, say the one with all the buttons? Finding another WU1000 panel would be difficult, I parted one out about 2 years ago-ouch! Not sure if any surgery is possible but if she's a parts donor than so be it, the price I paid was worth the pristine racks if nothing else can be done. Put on your thinking caps experts....GO!

Is the pitting so serious that it cannot be buffed out with some Flitz or Semichrome Polish?

That is a Beautiful Machine.

No Touch Pads ?

WOW... Can't you take the panel to get re-chromed ?

Change out could be possible but

I cannot with any certainty say much about the Maytag electronics on this machine where others may be able to check for you but you should be able to use all the mechanical components since they would all most likely be exactly the same as on the non computer models. Where the differences may be will be in the electronic sensors for temperature of the water as well as the interlock switches.

I know that on the Hobart Kitchen Aids, they used thermistor probes and not snap action thermostats like we are used to seeing on just about any other machine. They also used reed switches and magnets for the latches and other little things like that.

Probably the easiest way to compare would be to look at the parts breakdowns and wiring diagrams for the two machines and see just what will need to be swapped from one machine to the other.

What about the possibility of using the chrome panel detail from the electromechanical machine and swap it out on the electronic one?

Now after all these years, I find myself longing for a Kitchenaid Selectra just for the conversatonal value and the fact that all the electronic machines of that era all looked so hi tech and are timeless in their design and look in any kitchen.

What a GREAT find!!!

Good for you! I'm with you in that I absolutely love the Maytag RR machines.
I still feel it is the most versatile and capacious machine one will ever use. And fun to load because of that.
But you have to have used one to know and understand that.
Noisy as a freight train but left NOTHING behind and in only a maximum of 5 phases.
Excellent fan drying without the need for heat and it actually DRIES the dishes.
Hopefully you can get the part you need soon so you can start enjoying that Baby!
I scored a BOL model 3 weeks ago, same model I had my first ever experience with.
It's the same model that panel is for in Malcolm's thread as well.
Sadly, it is not in great shape inside.
But the outside is fine and I am going to make it a Summer project to clean and do any rebuilding that is necessary.
I may be looking for parts from other members over the Season as time and funds allow, but I definitely wish you luck in finding that panel.
And if I see anything locally as well, I'll send you the info.
