Colors
Not to waste aw.org space to complain about colors, but lately the avocado color seems to be in the "upgrade" schemes. The Mobile Maid I posted nearby and these 2 would partner well together, color-wise.
Is the GE oven shaded green? Time here at aw.org looking at appliance finishes, I'm liking the solid colors. | ||

Only shaded, hmm. I thought for sure they made un-shaded, too. I must be thinking of the earlier GE wall ovens, then. Where do you find the colors for these things? Did GE offer a BLUE or BlUE-SHADED color when this shaded avocado was offered? I never see blue colors, yet, I'm sure there was a blue offering in the GE(or Frigidaire line)in the 50's(?).

Blue GE Phil, yes, GE did have a blue color choice starting in 1955 and I think it was offered until 1960. It was called Cadet Blue and no, it did not come with an air-force cadet... LOL
IIRC Frigidaire may have had a blue offering in the mid-60s; I'm thinking about an ad I saw for their 'Matador Red' appliances that may have also featured blue as a choice.
Whirlpool had their 'Sapphire Blue' too, but I think that was later in the 60s. | ||

In addition to the GE medium blue, which as Paul said was Cadet Blue, other companies had light/baby/powder blues in the 50s, including Hotpoint 'Seafoam Blue'. | ||

Shaded vs. Unshaded - darker vs. lighter/more transparent?
Roger - After reading your answer and then John L's , is the answer..."yes, GE made NS Avocado"? It appears they did. Do you or anyone else know if the shaded version of Avocado is more of a spring shade(lighter)of Avocado. One finds different colored Avocado's in the store, and for those who HATE this color, I apologize for using this as an example. So, to add levity...were the shaded colors, if you were to compare, actually lighter in their stated colors? I'm reaching, but is it possible there's a slightly lighter/more transparent color quality to the shaded varieties or no?
Paul - A Cadet - funny, I actually joined something called Cadets of America, but that was in the mid-60's. Anyways! I seldom see the Cadet Blue - once in a GE wall oven. Imagine..they offered it for the stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. Hi John L - Avocado had a long run and Harvest Gold surely had a longer run. So, GE DID make a non-shaded avocado color. I'm guessing it came before the shaded versions?????? Jeff - Oooo! You said the magic words. Hotpoint Seafoam Blue. I think THAT's the color I seldom see and love. Thanks all. | ||

GEs Shaded Appliance Colors Shaded Avocado came out around 1967 and shaded harvest gold around 1969, the newer non-shaded versions both disappeared around or at the same time approximately 1984. It is true that the gold color was much more popular toward the end of these colors life but both were still available often only by special order.
I had a customer in 1984 that wanted a new WP washer and she said that she had never manged to have a W&D set that matched, so she ordered a brown WP washer to match the fairly new WP dryer she already had. A few weeks later we deliver the new washer and we both look at her dryer which was actually avocado, she looked at the new washer and laughed and said I guess I will never have a matched pair. | ||
