Help! I've had a Bendix Super Compact washing machine (otherwise Eudora) for over 20 years - it's kept going but is showing its age. Recently, following an episode with a 5p coin and a scrunched-up shirt-collar stiffener that I removed from the coin-trap, the pump keeps jamming - I assume there's an automatic cut-off to stop the motor burning out. A couple of times I've managed, by removing the drain tap and fiddling with the actual fan/rotor, to free the mechanism sufficiently for the pump to start, and get a few loads washed. But it sticks again once I put the machine away, and this morning I can't get it to start at all.

Because of the layout of my kitchen I can't have a washing machine plumbed in - I just position the old Bendix by the sink, connect the input hose to the cold tap, and hook the drain hose over the sink. Fine, but as far as I can see, there's no modern equivalent - even the smallest automatic washing machine has to be plumbed in, apart from those plastic ones intended for caravans and camping.

Does anyone know of a modern equivalent (including cold water fill) available in the UK?

Or does anyone know a service engineer (in the London area) who would be willing to take on the challenge of repairing an old machine with no spare parts?

(I don't trust my DIY skills, but see www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/T... )

Or a second-hand vintage model in working order?

Suggestions would be welcome.

I've owned one of these.

Try looking at the capacitors to see if theyre gone, thats as far as my knowlege goes on these!

You can still get compact machines, either from Candy or Zanussi, the Candy ones seem more reliable and I've owned 6 different models.
