I know the quality of this pair is extremely low and basically no one here would encourage anyone to purchase this pair, but....

I like the design of this pair.  Seems like this was the last attempt to put some "style" into a laundry pair - after the "white-on-white" blizzard of appliance design struck.  They remind me of the 1957 GE products with the brushed aluminum panels on the front.  Too bad their looks are their only redeeming value.

Alliance did a MUCH better job with this design. While even the Alliance version will never match the reliability and cleaning of a DD WP/KM Alliance made these machines better.
Of course We love them because they are the last well made US toploader that works how we are used to. That does not meen that HE machines that use water PROPERLY, (Most don't)can't clean clothes.

I would be surprised if the washer even works at all.

Lawrence - I can join you in some way - I like this Amana pair, which is probably not of much interest either.

now I have to get the years correct.......but this first set was a Norge design by Maytag at that time.....

Amana's design which compared to SQ was built by Raytheon, once Alliance took over, then the seal issues were resolved of those machines....

depending on the year, Amana jumped around a lot.....

sometimes manufacturers want their digs into fields of a whole variety of machines, to which they slap their name on someone else's machine....

Amana was good at RadaRanges/Microwaves, and should have stuck with that.....

then again, Maytag should have stuck with Laundry/dishwashers....its what they did best.....Same as Alliance, Laundry, its all they do!.....

granted ones like Whirlpool/Kenmore, GE, and Frigidaire made a variety of their own appliances, and did good with all of them...although some had some ups and downs....

Basically all I've seen here regarding Amana laundry products is bad.  I know to stay away from them and I'm in no way challenging that or attempting to change anyone's opinion regarding the brand.  I simply find the gray accents on the otherwise white appliances a nice touch.  I don't care for the "swoopy" circular graphics on the control panel, but in a world of all-white (no chrome, no black, no woodgrain even) I like the way this pair looks.

"but in a world of all-white (no chrome, no black, no woodgrain even)" ….

This reminds me, and it's only my opinion which isn't devoid of appreciating some stainless appliances. But walking through Lowe's appliance department two days ago, I was struck by how boring all the appliances are now looking. It seems that even as recent as 15 years ago, it was actually more interesting to shop in an appliance store, but maybe my brain cells are tricking me. Lawrence, your comment brings to mind, at least to me, that there's a veil of monotonous stainless shapelessly draping an otherwise interesting array and functionality of LED lights. Like the song, "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" …I want to know where have all the cool appliances gone, gone to graveyards every one? Yep, except for the few that are kept alive by the vintage enthusiasts out there.

in the landfill might possibly blind the pilot of an airliner passing over. Better to stick with white on white on white... LOL!

The first set is not the Norge design. If you took the front off it would look very much like today's Speed Queens.

look again.....Speed Queen/Amana's designs never had a corkscrew/dual-action agitator...

Corkscrew / Dual-Action agitator ....

Maytag made many Speed Queen design washers with this agitator. Check out the parts list for yourself. I believe the model # NAV2330AWW is correct for the washer in question.
