Did any manufacture ever build a DW using a UV lamp for sani rinsing?

What a great thought.

Could this be possible ?

When I was a teenager, I worked for a country club that had UV fluorescent tubes in the Meat Walk-in

UV sanitizing-there are air handler units for both household and commercial HVAC systems to sterilize the air. Also portable units. And for a while you could gt safety goggle cabinets that had UV lights in them to sanitize the goggles in between uses-the lights went out when the cabinet door was opened.

I think high heat or chlorine has been the approach to sanitizing dishware commercially and high heat in domestic machines. I would think that there would be problems with uniform exposure, the ozone byproduct from UV light and the time involved.

LG always had interesting dishwashers

But IIRC, never on the EU market... I think in the early days of US dryers, an ozone lamp was common...

Tub Lamp

I wasn't so much thinking about a lamp in the tub, but perhaps one in the sump to kill as water passed through the system.

That is a cool idea, Malcolm. The LG referenced in Alexander's link must be a UK model. My LG was a 2008 model and it looked nothing like this one.

Of course, we could all just toss our dishes into a 1959 Lady Kenmore washer, as it had a UV lamp for sanitization. Don't imagine it did much, but man, it made the suds glow brilliantly.
