General Electric Co. last week rolled out a six-foot-wide, 41-cubic-foot, double-door refrigerator/freezer that starts at $13,999.

*WOW*

Can someone explain to me why a gas stove (as pictured) is on wheels?

Thought for the day:
What is going to happen to *high-end* when the economy once again collapses due to the high cost of energy/fuel?

Thanks for sharing that with us.

Excess to the point of obscenity.

Ho Hum.........

A trophy house has to have trophy appliances. Don't these biggies impress friends and neighbors. That's probably all they do because these trophies are most likely hardly ever used.

What's so stupid about the trophy appliances, as any good cook who knows kitchens will tell you, is that if you have such a big budget, it is much smarter to buy several smaller units, whether they be stoves, dishwashers, refrigerators or freezers. Different foods do better in different "zones" different foods cook better with different fuels in different venues, and I defy anyone to tell me that they hadn't wished for at least one extra dishwasher when entertaining.

..and I sure don't have to preach to y'all about numbers of laundry appliances.

As for sheer size, sure, it matters, but I'll go for variety any day.

If I was building a house or kitchen big enough I'd certainly want appliances that would fit like these. It would look rather silly to have a nice big kitchen with average stove and appliances in it. So what if the person can't cook or don't use it, they couldn't cook on regular appliances either. People like kitchens probably more than any other room in the house so it's quite reasonable that people might want to spend a lot on it. Besides it's fun.

Heh.

The housing/mortgage bubble is going to burst, sooner or later. (Probably sooner, though I hope no one here gets hurt in the collapse.)
-------------------
-------------------

My dream kitchen would have a 6 or 8 burner pro power gas! cooktop (Maybe Viking or Wolf..) and a 2 element electric cooktop, because electricity is good for simmering.

Serious venting for all of them.

A small, deep sink near the cooktop, but NOT a potfiller faucet over the cooktop. Those potfiller faucets over cooktops make me NERVOUS. I do not like to be nervous in the kitchen.

At least two sink stations, and the bowl of one of the sink stations would be DEEP. Deeper than the late Barry White's voice. Disposers, of course.

At least two electric residential self cleaning ovens, side by side, NOT stacked. A gas residential self cleaning oven, too.

Two and a half dishwashers. The half being a KitchenAid Briva.

The refrigerator would be the SubZero All Refrigerator, and the SubZero matching freezer, or other brand all fridge with all freezer.

Mixed countertops. Some laminate, some sealed wood, and next to the cooktops and ovens, stainless steel.
A stretch of stainless steel near the baking centre.

Floor? Something decent underfoot, like bamboo planks or laminated wood. Nothing extremely hard, or slippery when wet.

Mixed lighting. Sky lights or Solartubes, windows, flourescents, and halogen. Lots of dimmers or switches. Operating room bright to very, very dim in seconds.

Book shelves, a phone, a desk-ette, maybe with a laptop computer (linksys!)

Maybe a wood burning fireplace or bread oven.

TWO pantries. One for food storage, the other for utensils and dishware. One of the dishwashers would be in the butler's pantry.

Of course, of course, there would be a laundry nook for the kitchen towels, potholders, table linens, and so forth.

Hey, a guy can dream, right?

Big washers

So where are the supposedly big washers? Are they talking about HE4T's, Tromm, etc. (sound like this needs to move over to the Deluxe or Super forum)

How about any of the 50s' combos? Maytag, Whirlpool, Bendix. Those were the SUV washers of the time.

(Sound of me stepping up on my soapbox) My dears, it is very simple. The same mentality which led to the Iraq mess, the obscenly over-dimensioned SUV mess and the "you stand with us or you are against us" mentality hits the appliance world. Again.
The rest has been better said here than I can put it, so I won't.
(Scrape, stomp - I have descended from the soapbox. Raining in the park today, anyway.)

I was at the house of the CEO of the company I'm working for. He has a beautiful house with many rooms. Every piece of furniture exquisite. And what's in their laundry room? A pair of direct drive Whirlpools. I was hoping to see a pair of FL's or something like that.

What does he care what the maid uses?

Post# 125118 , Reply# 12   4/28/2006 at 09:07 (6,566 days old) by jasonl (Cookeville, TN)

The maid was washing/drying/ironing when I was fixing the puter.

I can say that the man has arrived. He's to the point where he doesn't have to spend gruelling hours of work. He just oversees the whole operation. Now he's enjoying life. I personally would've done the place up in pop culture, like a 50s kitchen/laundry, a 70s/80s den/hangout/arcade/whatever room and a saucy bedroom suite for me and the future Mrs. LeBouef
