Hello everybody. I have questions about GE agitators. Which agitators worked better? Did the gentle power agitator work better or did the flex care? People say that these GE's shred clothes all the time. I haven't had any problems with that. What was the history of these dual-action agitators? I'd like to know.

I'm a fan of the ramped GE agitators. I like how the clothing turns over and moves. Never was fond of the dual action auger/straight vane agitators GE used.

While the dual action auger/straight vane agitator did work somewhat to force clothing to turn over, I found it was prone to ripping items of clothing, despite the short "chugga chugga chugga" stroke agitation my washer used.

My 2004 GE washer hated my comforter slips unless I ran it at gentle speed. (It was a four speed washer, Handwash/Gentle/Casuals/Normal) A little bit of user error there.

I honestly wish that GE hadn't gotten rid of the ramped agitators they used in the Filter-Flo's.. they would be awesome with the Hydrowave design... IMO

I've never used a Filter-Flo so i can't comment on personal experience. My Hydrowave came with the dual action cork screw agitator and I also put in the older straight vane Flex-Care agitator (not the dual action one). The dual action cork screw def did a good job with larger loads. I did notice a difference compared to the Flex Care. That one was fine with small loads since everything stayed at the bottom. The Hydrowave has a gentler wash action anyway compared to the older DD versions.

my GE washer

My GE washer has the dual-action gentle power agitator. I remember when the agitation would first start. It would have a muffled banging sound from underwater. It sounds normal to me. Mine has the precision care wash system. I rarely ever use gentle/fast or gentle/slow. More often than not, I use normal/fast. How many strokes a minute did these washers go at? I have noticed that the motor has a high pitched whirring sound compared to the filter-flo. What about you? My washer will yield a tsunami on small and normal/fast. Mine also has an electronic panel with rotary knobs and a push to start button and lights. Mine is from 2000. I also have the matching dryer as well. I believe these washers have a hidden self-cleaning lint filter underneath the agitator.

If my memory serves me right, my GE washer did about 180 strokes/minute on the normal cycle. One thing that bothered me about it was that the agitator stroke was quite short, only just a few inches.. maybe about 10 degrees?

In comparison, the Whirlpool I had before that had a much longer stroke, it was an early 80's single speed machine. Part of me wishes I had just kept it, but I wanted to wash pillows and other delicate items without the machine tearing them apart.

I didn't really do my research before I had bought the GE. Had I known they had such a short agitation stroke, I probably would have bought a Huebsch TL instead.

I honestly don't know. I never recall ever having to remove the lint filter. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't even have one.

motor tone

Have you noticed that the pitch of the motor sounds higher then the filter-flo when running? I have noticed.
