And it's free!
That would be GREAT to even have just for the extra spare parts!

I hope someone gets it before it goes to the dump!

If I found another dryer like this around, I'd make a second pair of 806!

Safe!

It's in the back of my truck now. It's crazy, but I'm going back for the GIANT freezer tomorrow. It's vertical, the kind where the shelves are the evaporator. It's some kind of Sears brand, figured to have been there for at least forty years. It even has a lock, with the key!

A quick shot of the info on the back...

Haven't unloaded it yet, but here's what looks like model number and such. Which apparently you guys could tell by seeing it :)

The serial number is visible when you open the door, that will tell the production date.

Mine is from 1973, yours is probably a bit older as the 906 model was discontinued by 1973 and yours still has the information about the push button 906 model on it's wiring diagram. I can't see if yours has the clear acrylic knob like mine or the earlier style metal knob.

I really like the look of the 1966 and newer center dial Maytags.

All Safely Home

Man, that Freezer is Big and Heavy! They aren't in the photos, but I have the metal bails for the door shelves. We just removed them for transport.

Evidently the house was built in 1969, and I saw what looked like an October 1968 date stamped in ink on the wiring diagram on the back of the freezer. We melted several pound of ice out of it lol.

The Dryer

The dryer does have the acrylic knob on the dial. I would presume that this was the original dryer to the house as well.

The dryer is from December of 1971 so it's exactly two years older than mine.

Thank you all for the encouragement and information!

I was hoping for the '60's on the dryer, but late '71 is ok :) They must have had another dryer for their first couple of years in the house.

That's a beautiful set you have, Phil.

I won't put this dryer into service since electricity is astronomically expensive in CA. I didn't even install a 240 volt socket in the laundry room when I rewired the house (from aluminum). But I will reconnect the dryer for 115 volt operation and run a test load :) And make sure that cool panel light works :)

Thanks,
Keith

As you probably noticed, this dryer has no timer. It uses a moisture sensor (the metallic strips in the drum fins). The air fluff setting has a pre-programmed timed operation of a few minutes but I think it's timed electronically. The other cycles use the moisture sensor to determine the drying time, then a timed cool-down period ends the cycle.

Electronics

I haven't had a chance to really study the machine closely, but was scratching my head a bit while looking at the photo of the dial!

These must employ some pretty rugged / simple electronic controls to last forty some years! It will be interesting to study for sure.

The freezer was made by Marvel/Imperial based on the Sears manufacturer code of 757.

31' freezer!

Congratulations on your free grab! I'd really love to be able to own a 31' freezer, even a manual defrost model like yours. I have a 16' frost free 220V/50Hz US made export model GE freezer, it works beautifully, but I would gladly step up to a 31' model if I could (I do have the extra floor space it would require). Anyhow, I don't think freezers this big are even made for export, the biggest I could ever find for 220V/50Hz was a 21' Electrolux made by Frigidaire. Emilio

21' export GE

Actually I just found a link to a 21' frost free GE export freezer, for 220V/50. This would be my choice over the Frigidaire.
