This is the dw ad which caused the FTC to file suit against Sears for many false claims. The legal opinion is a very interesting read

I had that exact same model Lady K and feel those FTC claims are totally bogus. I never had a single item that was not washed perfectly on either rack and the sani-temp cycle almost boiled the final rinse water. The only thing I wish it had was an air dry cycle. Wish I still had the old girl.

Wow!  What an interesting read.  I guess this was the beginning of the end for D&M Kenmore-badged dishwashers....

What year did Sears last sell the Roto-Rack?

We had this Lady Kenmore from 1974-84 when replaced it with a KitchenAid after my mom passed. Although the Roto-Rack was fun, it wasn't a great dishwasher. It rusted out fairly early. My stepfather kept patching it. It cleaned dishes well, but wasn't great on pots/pans. Loud, crude compared to the KA.

Hadn't heard about the lawsuit. Will have to read the link.

Sears really deserved the FTC reprimand for the claims they were making in the mid 70s for those crummy DWs, they were diffidently stretching the the performance claims a little too much.

Yes D&M DWs could clean pretty well, heating the main wash and the final rinse to a guaranteed temperature with the main pump and motor running really helps cleaning. This same idea is what has made WP DWs work so well and is also why no Hobart built KA DW could ever consistently match the maximum cleaning that you could get with WP DWs.

But back to the KM D&M DWs, their big down fall was the lack of any type of filter, NO DW without a means to filter the circulating water has ever been one of the top performing DWs. And of course D&Ms biggest down fall was the horrible build quality, yes Sears took back thousands of KM D&M DWs but most were because of many serious and frequent problems with the machines rather than just bad performance.

Deep in the order it showed one of the tests being done with 1/2 cup! of Cascade...I'll bet that helped a great deal...
