I remember these; I was always a fan of Phyllis Diller even though, during the era this commercial aired, it wasn't "cool" (mostly to high-toned women)to appreciate self-deprecating females in comedy. Screw 'em.
Actually everything promoted in this commercial turns out to be true. When I lived in Hyde Park NY, the water was so hard that every time I used chlorine bleach you could see the wash water turn yellow as it was added. The solution turned out to be the peroxide bleaches and/or heavy duty water softeners. |

I thought I had seen all the Diller/Snowy commercials but apparentley I missed this one. I would have remembered the very nice Maytags. I went to see Phyllis Diller as a teenager at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos. I remember this was an afternoon performance and when she noticed several kids in the audience she said "my my my, so many little faces!" and she toned-down her act a bit. Circle Star was theater in the round and since it was in the afternoon several of the more pricey seats closer to the stage were empty. Miss Diller asked everyone to move forward which was a cool thing to do.
I'm not going to even ask San Jose Ralph if the Circle Star is still there. I'm sure it's an extra large Carl's Junior now. |
