1949 Maytag Automatic Washer in Albany, NY.

We've been reading a lot of ads in the past month and this is the oldest non-wringer Maytag we've seen in any of them.

It's not some thing we're looking for (we're still in the hunt for an A806 / DE808 set) but figured we'd share the ad here in case this is just what somebody else is looking for...

That is the time fill A4MP and it was the lowest priced automatic introduced 1954-55. It has the narrow post agitator like the wringer machines and, you will notice, no buttons or flippers in the lid so you can watch the whole cycle! This is the one that the owners manual warned not to allow it to spin with the lid up. It also says that if you add an item after agitation has started, you have to be sure to push it beneath the water, an admission that the agitation might not tug it under.

This is the first time I've seen the timer dial in detail on one of these.  Lots of escapement advancement for fill!  I'm pretty sure the Maytag emblem doesn't light up on the A4MP (heck, the 121P had a speckled tub with a water transfer label for the Maytag badge!).
