Well after Alistair kept repeating "make sure you keep that wall free" - something is arriving!! my curiosity was peaked, So when Richard arrived with a large box that had been in the back of his car for a number of weeks, all was revealed...Al had hunted down this lovely Servis merchandising sign from the early 1960`s and what a fab wallpiece it is.
Big heartfelt thanks to Al and Richard!!

Another classic graced us brought by Darren and Austin, The uber rare English Electric 4150 twintub, just look at those ribbed steel lids, it uses a brush filter in the corner of the tub and this first series had the four vane black agitator, later one was a Red Spiralator which can be seen on top nearby. Another great renovation taken down to the metal and all parts original, this used the infamousand problematic "Powder Clutch" on the direct drive spin can and only lasted one series.
Thanks Darren again for bringing suh a fine specimen for use to view and use, which is the "Spirit of the Club". |

Another rare gem turned up as well, the ADA wringer washing machine which was produced up the road in Halifax, then became the Philips washing machine factory, now White Knight & Crosslee dryer factory...it uses a belt drive rather like the Norfrost twinny and we managed to get it working for a paint restore and will do a seperate thread later!!

Morning Launderess, thanks it was great time gone too quickly as usual, those drains certainly took a hammering, and a variety of aromas from all the "World of Detergents" you would have been proud, along with the Vac room and vac demos the Miele / Neff kitchen took a bit hit!!
Hi Eddie, many thanks and yes worth all the hard work when we all get together, you will have to hitch up with John Jetcone who is threatening another visit soon. |

Well i could not sleep before i went to the opening …… the excitement was overwhelming !!!!!
Totally tremendous day. Really great to see the completed room and all the hard work. The generosity of Al and Mike was very special because the work involved to prepare for such a weekend comes at a huge cost. Lovely to make new friends and catch up with old ones to. I loved being able to take the twin tubs over (many thanks to Austin) as so many were interested in the English Electric Liberator. Great day which i hope we can do again very soon. Thanks to every one Darren |

The only spooky thing about it being Halloween was how many memories this spectacular showroom sparks off in the mind. The Servis Compact and Frigidaire spin dryer were both in my grandparents kitchen, the supertwin in my grandmas neighbours, the Electra 1100 deluxe at my aunties - I could go on. Lovely to hear and see other machines I'd never experienced before. Darren's fantastic twinnies and the Servis supertwin had to be my highlights on the machine front.
I hadn't realised what was behind the Maytag curtain - that is absolutely fantastic. It was such a great weekend and a huge thanks to Al and Mike for all their hard work and truly generous hospitality. We were really well looked after and fed to the gills - especially with brioche ;) Thanks again guys S :) |

Hello Glen, yes always a choice and options but its worked out great, need to find a space for the F & P gentle annie toploader now. Hi Brent, glad you like it, more native brands, hopefully interesting to see!! Hi Bob, yes we needed you to certify "Bobloads" I can assure you the Miele coped brilliantly in the Neff cookcentre..and we where so busy with washers and vacs we didnt get round to hooking up the vintage dishwashers, another weekend dedicated to dishmasters me thinks. |

Chris (ronhic) next visit to Blighty you know where to come, just bring laundry!! Darren & Austin, thanks again for bringing over the twinnies, and everyone appreciated all your restoration work, prime examples for all the club to see & share in. Chris, glad you enjoyed yourself and thanks to your father Graham for driving you and Phil all the way, hope the drive home wasnt delayed!! Steve, its always great to bring back the memories of appliances in our past and please dont mention the "brioche" which was yum and yum!! |

Hello Jon, the little Bendix is cited firmly in the corner, Big Berta Bendixii Giromatique that you kindly worked on is soo big (first non bolt down) that it wouldnt fit through the door ha ha...its 27+ inches wide and nearly as much deep which is the issue. and we didnt have time to move the door frame!! It is safe under its horse blankets in storage along with the Maytag TL set and wringers.

Hi Ian and Mike , I did a bit of a daft thing when I restored the. English Electric twinnie as I could see that it is a 1420 just rebadged. The wash valve has a blanked off port which would accommodate a filter flow hose to feed a filter dish. Also under the facia there is a place to put a hose which is sealed off. There is also a blanked off hole for a suds return port. I should have taken a few photos before I put it back together.
The best thing about the weekend was everyone's enthusiasm for machines we all love and being able to share everyone's interest and experience. Feel I have made some great new friends which really is what it's all about. Darren |

Mike, Leslie (MagicClean) & I were reminiscing last night about the early 2000s wash-ins in Minnie and DC. And let's not forget arming the Hettie at Sears!! I particularly love the Colston Jetstream 1400. It looks "so 80s". Such a nice variety of programmes. On the left side there's the "on" button, but what's the difference between Button A and Button B given the "On" button is right next to them? |

Hi Keith, yes its at Alistair`s new place and fab it is, the twinnies and single tubs are stacked on double dexion racking in the garage and are brought in when required and stuf moved around, alas there is still a number in storage but looks like (fingers crossed) going to another display area soon - let me know if you want anything for your up and coming display at The Lightbox assuming its all systems go for it? AND if you have a spare washpump from breaking up the twin 6 please let us know, Darren`s looking for one for another project!!
Hi Steve, yes Hoover quite prominent at the mo ha ha...we do have other classics from Servis, Hotpoint, Parnall and Creda but the feature wall is currently host to a world first, all the styles of the Hoover Keymatics with keyplate action, that wall will rotate in time. John, would be great to see you here for a visit, let us know dates etc and also keep us informed of your dates for the Beltsville Md. Museum next year!! |

Hi Mike, I kinda lost track of who's place it was - been working away a lot and didn't see the original thread, great display !!
We are really excited about the display that is hopefully going to take place at the Lightbox museum in 2016, my mate Gary has close connections with one of the head guys there and we are just in discussions at the moment. I broke up that Twin 6 ages ago, I will have a bit of a hunt around to see if any bits are still kicking around..it may have got used on my Blue Supermatic, but will check. Darren: The Liberator & Supermatic twinnies look fab - well done on the re-furb !! Cheers Keith |

Hi Bob, more reading for you, scanned a few relevant pages of the Colston 1400, lovely dishwasher and and main parts pump etc, made by Smeg which is a premium manufacturer! Button A increases wash time and button B lowers temperature from 60d to 45d for light soil, glasses and eco feature.

Wow, I am totally speechless at such an amazing night, living down in London it's quite far away but I would love to one day get to visit such a place and get to 'plug n play'.
Love the line up of Keymatic's and my all time favourite the A3060, we just need an A3064 Selectamatic to complete the top 3 New Magic line-up (easier said than done lol). Mike, I appreciate all the efforts you and everyone have gone to make such a wonderful room where it's comforting to know that all the machines I and others cannot provide the space for are in a safe place, would be nice to see the Hotpoint 9900 there one day. Thanks, hope you all had a wonderful night and happy washing! Brandon. |

Thanks Gary, good to see that rare A3114 there. Enjoy watching those videos many times!
I would love to one day come up there, and would be a pleasure to meet you all as I have so much respect for you guys looking after these machines. Whoever was in charge of where the machines went in that room is a genius, the Keymatics all together, A3060 with its 'Aluminium' counterparts etc. In Cardiff, I don't suppose there are any rare Hotpoint machines? I'm not too familiar with the collector, am I right in saying he is called Matthew? (the one who owns the Selectamatic). Brandon. |

So it looks as though the time has come for me to part with the Hoover A3110. The reason being is that for practical reasons the A3110 has been sat in the shed since last winter, covered up and protected the best it can be, however this is not the same as being in a heated house and in regular use.
Over the weekend I decided to take it out of the shed and bring it back into the house for regular use relegating my Maytag to the shed for a bit. I love the Hoover and I have emotional attachment to it but its not getting the use or enjoyment being stuck in the shed. I left it sat in the house overnight to come upto room temperature even though we haven't hit winter yet and temps have been mild still. I plumbed it all in on Sunday and noted the cold water valve was noisy. The timer didn't seem to happy either and didn't make the usual clicking sounds. I put it on a 40C wash (E) and went out and did my shopping. It seemed to be doing ok and all heated up ok and drum turning fine and draining out. I got back and the RCD had tripped out and the machine was full of water and sat at cycle G. I took the machine outside and emptied this out and noted as I was moving it there was silver foil (it looked like confetti) all over the floor under the machine. You'll see the pictures that when I moved the machine there was also some places on the floor where water had dripped onto the floor. I was going out so didn't have time to look properly as I had drained and disconnected the machine by this point but there was water dripping from the bottom of the tub but this hadn't got anywhere near the motor or anything. Upon taking the lid of it was clear the mains filter had blown. I know these are not needed any more due to the world of digital and I could potentially bypass this and get it up and running but it was the water on the floor that has put me off. You'll see in the first pic there is a gap in the wooden floor panels where there is just floor boards beneath and you can tell the colour tone difference from the wet and dry bits. I think its possibly time I donate the machine to the museum, I really feel attached to it and would be a shame to see it go but unless I bring this back into daily use in the house its going to end up deteriorating in the shed. There is rusting around the door which was previously patched up and the back panel is rusting too. I don't want the machine to get any worse. Its a shame as I was going to bring the machine back into daily use and possibly give my maytag to my brother as they are in desperate need of a washer. See pictures below. |

lets just see it before any rash decisions are made, could be just a matter of giving the backplate nuts a tighten. Mathew |

Yes I am going to bring it with me.. there is some new rust though on it that I need to sort.
If I bring it can someone bring the stuff I need to get rid of the rust I'll happily pay for the materials and can give it a work over when I am there. Ideally would like to give the maytag to my brother and then get this in my kitchen full time :) |

Looks like the mice or some such had their way with it, and firing it up revealed the evidence.
Mikey Mike. With your museum and your house, we should send Better Homes & Garden over there for a cover shoot. Smitten with that English Electric and the glass lid--how classy. So many many machines. You know Mike, I may have been born in the wrong country. You guys seem to love and collect Twinines and wringers with as much enthusiasm as the yanks have for automatics, some of whom would't let a wringer in the door. LOL. Love them all equally as you guys do. One machine in the early pics, burgandyish color, like half a Hoover, hidden in the middle, Is that a single tub oovah? So this is your one year anniversary coming up. Good for you and all the lads. When I was in Europe in the 70's, England was my favorite place by far, and I'd love to go back there. You're on my bucket list, and you're welcome here next time you cross the great Atlantic WashingMachine. |
