These machines were very fragile. The motor was, of course, mounted below the tub, but the drive shaft for the impeller came up through a tube under the impeller. This was a direct path to the motor for moisture, especially in the early days of dishwasher detergents that did not often control sudsing that well which caused more contamination of the motor. While I knew of a few of these machines that lasted many years, I knew of far more where, after the motor was replaced a couple of times, the machine just sat there unrepaired and unused.
