I left a note inside this dishwasher we saw at an estate sale hoping the new home owners will contact me. This is a 1958 Hotpoint, the first design Hotpoint made with as spray arm and not an impeller. It would be great fun to play with this machine.

For a 1958 I was impressed at how "modern" the front looks compared to DW from just a few years prior.

Look at that water well, it looks like it uses close to 12 gallons of water to complete one cycle!

Good luck!

Looks like a fun wash system, if not a precarious one for certain items in the top rack.

Perhaps it would be considered sacrilege, but if Robert can get his hands on it, that machine would be a prime candidate for a plexi-glass front.

What a Cool Racking System. It is truly a "Dish" washer.  No deep Stock Pots in that baby.

The Pink Spray Head reminds me of the Lost in Space Robot. "Danger Will Robinson".

The Top Rack has such a unique loading pattern and configuration.

Good Luck... Hope it's a score.

Great console! Question: Is there a spray arm below the bottom rack or does the pink Frisbee spray both the lower and upper racks? A beautiful machine, to be sure.

Dishes only, no pots and pans

To be fair few if any vintage dishwashers truly coped with pots and pans, regardless of offering such a cycle. Those with such at best softened and removed various levels of gunk, but make no mistake Madame would be a scrubbing/wiping afterwards.

Of course if the things were pre-soaked and or washed beforehand things could be different. Don't bother with the P&P cycle on my MM unless am doing a load of baking/cooking with fresh pots and stuff ready to go. If things are truly crusty will stop the things after main wash and restart for a second go. Also helps to use commercial strength (and probably highly corrosive) automatic dishwasher detergent to "scour" off the muck.

Ralph that's 1/4" heavy duty glass that I use for making dishwasher windows. Plexi-glass wont hold up for long.

There sure is a spray arm at the bottom Eugene, you can see 1/2 of it pointing towards the 1:00 position.

What an interesting design!

I love the "Pink Frisbee" for the upper rack!  The bottom wash arm looks so modern.  I bet it really throws a good amount of water with the bottom wash arm being so slender and round.

Do you have any literature on this model?

I hope they call you guys to come get it!

How rare!

Impressive styling for that year. Really was a leader for it's time. I hope they contact you. It would end up in good hands.

You'd need a bottle of "dolls" just to get through a day with those racks. What were they thinking at HP?? LOL

A BobLoading challenge for sure

rp2813's profile picture

Well, there sure is plenty of space between the plates.

That's an issue on my late model Miele.  Plates are racked so close together that tines just slightly out of whack can cause some to make contact, depending on the type of plate, and as a result cleaning can be compromised.

The only problem

With these old Hotpoints, is you have to wear ear protection when they are running....Really though, they clean as good as anything made today, better than most.

and I think Westinghouse reached a design peak from 1958-1964. Any appliance from that period from them looks up to date today. Especially the refrigerators, but this DW is a great example of that.

Glad the hear Hans that is not an "intent to clean" machine !!

I knew

A family in my hometown that had a similar machine, when they got a new Hotpoint in the late 70s they always said the old one cleaned better.

can I fish out of the word-wealth source?

Can't. What a cool, really great looking and neat-featured system.

I love the panel, the interior, and whatever decibels it possesses. I don't mind a

louder dishwasher, personally when it's an old girl like this one.

Hope you get this and thanks for once again presenting a relic of distinction.
