She said, no, don't throw it away, I amy know someone who would be interested.

Mr. Andrews (age 78) picked this machine up at his mothers home since the estate had been sold.

I am a proud owner of my new Maytag A200.

Steve

Mr. Andrews and I spent 2 hours yesterday afternoon talking and reviewing the first and last years of his career.

???????????????????????????????????????????

Instead of his mother's Maytag, guess what he did and what he retired from.

Clue, not Maytag.

Hey Steve, what a rockin' find! Gotta love all the recent Highlander scores. Looks like you've got the touch - they are all following you home right now. Keep up the good work!

I think this is just about as good as it gets. Ok, so I can't guess. If not Maytag, hmm - whatever, he obviously has made you - and by abstraction - a lot of us happy. Best wishes to him!

The story goes like this

mayken4now's profile picture
Mr. Andrews came over with the washer in the back of an old Izuzu pickup, rusted, dented, and leaked oil. I thought great, this guy is a junk dealer. He had it strapped to an appliance hand truck, and upon peering into the back I saw some ramps that he used to load/unload the machine. I preceeded to help him and he said "Oh no let me get it, I can do this by myself no problem". I was a little in awe. Ok, I said. (First of all, this man doesn't even know me, and we have never met, but he is all excited about this washer's new home)

We got the washer out of the truck and he rolled it where it sits in my garage. Within minutes of him being here he became attached to the 1947 Unimatic and the control tower dryer.

He indicated I am no new kid on the block when it comes to these machines. He said "Boy, you don't know this, but I started working for Gulf Power in 1947. My heart started to race. Gulf Power until later 1979 was the Frigidaire Dealer here in Pensacola. His entire carreer was spent doing washer/dryer repair for Frigidaire. He retired in 1980. In all the conversation we had, he is still very interested in machines. Like I indicated earlier, he was here for two hours.

I introduced him to AW.org. He was in his glory. We looked at "See it Wash". The fourum etc.

He told me that anything that I need to know about Frigidaire, he knew the answer.

I am invited to collect all of his tool's from his stach and several parts items that he still has. Even an oil and water bellows for my Unimatic. He indicated that he does have some machines but unsure of which ones are left. He thought a lot of the parts would be all dry rotten however. I will be going over, real soon, due to the unveiling that we are neighbors. See how close these things can be, and we don't even know.

It all came about by my presistance and insistance at Gray's Maytag.

The moral of the story. Make phone calls, meet people in public, talk with folks, express your interest, market yourself, and BINGO! The computer alone won't find anyone appliances and bring them to you. I have only been with AW.org for a little over a year, and THANKS to some for all the advice and information shared about collecting machines. My collection is getting real big now.

BTW- The Maytag A200 be it what it is (and yes it works perfectly) and all what is to come was and is absoutly free of charge. Mr. Andrews would not and will not take a penny from me! I am still in shock.

Thanks for listening, any questions.

Steve

Steve ... that's wonderful!! Being nice to people and asking questions does pay off; you are the prime example of that!

Free of charge; Mr. Andrews has a kind heart and you probably helped him by showing interest in him and what he did for a living.

Congrats on the great Maytag and for your future acquistions!!

Re: Congrat's Steve:

One of my Aunt's and Uncle's had a Maytag Washer just like this, except theirs had an Orangish Color lower Panel area on the Console, where yours is Blue/Aqua Color. Their Washer had the Gyrofoam Agitator and I believe that it had only the Safety Switch operating on the Spin and not on the Wash/Rinse Fill or Agitation.

It seems to me that their Washer had 2-sets of Push-Buttons, 1-set on each side of the Center-Timer Dial. I don't remember for sure what the other set of Push-Buttons were for, but the 1-set was the Water Temperature, could the other set of Push-Buttons be for a Water Level or 2-Speed Agitate/Spin? Might have their Washer had a separate Wash {Hot, Meduim, Warm} and Rinse {Warm, Cold} Temperature set of Push-Buttons?

In their house, where I first knew about the Maytag Highlander Washer, it was located in their Basement and my Aunt hung the Laundry on Clotheslines down there. They later on moved out of their house into a Retirement Community and took the Washer with them and they bought an approx 1970's or 1980's "MOL" Model GE Electric Dryer. They never as far as I knew, ever had any problems with either the Washer or Dryer.

Peace and Happy Maytag Highlander Laundry Times, Steve
SactoTeddyBear...

I think that is just exactly what life should be about - people enjoying their passions with other people.
I hope this is the beginning of a long, fruitful friendship for both of you - and all those lovely folks with bodies of steel, just waiting for someone to love them again.

THANKS folks for all the nice postings on my "New Washer" and making a new friend.

Austin: yes, it is a timed fill.

Steve (Gyrafoam): I think 1964, the last ltwo letters in the serial are C W.

I'll keep you all posted when Mr. Andrews and I get together again.
