Appears to be the washer model the grandmother had (except hers was avocado).

The water level knob broke early-on, the replacement knob was for a KM 800 (intended for a console on which the knob was recessed).

bread and butter machines.

Back in the 80s, I must have come across at least a dozen of these washers, in white or avocado.

Never the dryers though.

Great looking set. These are 1970 models that have the same consoles as the 70 series offered in 1967. This model offers a second rinse option, whereas the 67 did not. A childhood friend of mine had this model. Agitator is the gold rotoswirl with the cone cap.

1970 correlates with the grandmother's timeframe in getting the machine.  She didn't have a dryer at the time, got an LXE-series Whirlpool (1972) a couple years later.

Nice Details

The design of these older machines was so much nicer than anything today. The chrome on door handles, lint screen door, and console trim was especially nice. Even though these were not TOL, they didn't look "cheap", IMHO.

Had purchased a used pair in Avocado while living in Dallas, early 80's - great performers.

Can't recall definitely, but think these had lighted dials?

Lighted Dial:

Yes, there was a light above the dial.

Details

Does the washer have a manual lint filter or self-cleaning?

Self-cleaning.  There's small text proclaiming such engraved on the console beneath the Kenmore label.

Interesting.  I don't think I've seen this iteration of the 70 series panel.  Looks very similar to the short-lived 1968 Lady Kenmore panel.  It is possible this is a 1968 model?

No, although I can see why you would think so as I had originally thought that about this model. Not only does it look like the LK with the model series engraved on the far left of the console, it also looks just like the 70 from 1967. However this exact style was not seen again on a 70 series until 1970. The two 70 series models that were issued in 1968 were the alphabet sliding cover model, and a standard one badged a 700. That one had a console that looked more like the 70 from 1966.
