when I started my washer collection 7 years ago after I left the drycleaning biz. I would look through old better homes and garden magazines and actually pass by the ads for the automatic machines. The reason I am sure being that these machines were so much the norm in my time. My grandma had a maytag from the 50s that a lot of us would flip over now. and so to the point,I have gotten interested in the early automatics recently by speaking to my friends from aw. I would like to get one of the early models that look a bit different than the typical design toploaders that are common. I have an ad for an abc-omatic from 1948. it has a very non descript look with a rounded cover and the controls hidden out of sight. I will try to scan a pic of it in the future. I would welcome any suggestions about models and prices. thanks so much Bill

Frog eye Kenmores are kinda cool looking. They have a 50s dashboard sort of look to them.
I was in Dry Cleaning too, wonder how many here in the forum are.
Thought about starting a thread about it, as I have some pics of what would be vintage equipment now.
(Old 40s Prosperity transfer unit, Prosperity foot stomper...I'll have to dig those pics out sometime.

birds of a feather!!!! fellow ex drycleaner

 Hey stan,its so great to hear from another ex drycleaner!!! I would love too see the pics of those transfer units!!! the cleaner I worked at had a 1953 detrex coronet 20lb transfer unit. I don't know what ever happened to detrex? they do still make industrial degreasing equiptment. I would really like to talk sometime about the dc biz and all the old machines the plants I worked in used to have. my# is 607-510-4100 thanks Bill

Here you have a third who was in the dry cleaning industry. My father got into that business back in '69 and I was in it up until about a year ago. Long long time. I already had an interest in washers and dryers, but I learned how to work on all the dry cleaning equipment and worked on washers and dryers in my spare time. I did that for many many years. We had a chain of dry cleaning stores in our city up until the '90's and then sold off or closed down most of them.
