They are nice-one of them the round jug Magnavox is going to need a replacement CRT-or if you are skilled-rebonding the safety glass screen on the CRT's screen.I have much less interest in these now--the TV are largely worthless unless you have a convertor. And for some modern TV programs they are shot in 16X9 format instead of the older 4X3 screen formats. The Hi-fi parts of the consoles would be the most useful things in these.Like for the 400 buck round tube porthole Zenith-its cool-but a peice of furniture at this point.

RCA Colortrak 2000 - $25 (Line Lexington, Philadelphia area)

These Colortrak 2000's have their fair share of criticisms from techs who worked on them, but I like the two I own. Great sound as the amplifiers were better than average.

It could be used as a regular tv. Either have to have a converter box, dvd player, vcr, or even laserdisc or beta players.

Yes,you could use the Zenith TV-but if you are trying to view 16X9 programs on it-you won't see the entire image as it is supposed to be.Picture yourself at a movie theater-the projectionist leaves the 4X3 apeture plate in the projector(or he leaves the screen masking set for 4X3) and he is running a 16X9 film-you get the "Picture"?Now,if you were watching 4X3 programs on it-then would be fine. Some DVD machines don't have modulators-you would have to use a VCR,Laserdisc player or older DVD machine that has the RF modulator. The Zenith set would not have video or audio inputs.

Here are some of my tv's. As you can see, they work and get used. Ive had a DVD player hooked up to each one of them. It isn't really hard to do.
I also included a picture of my Zenith porthole tv. Currently not working, but hope to restore it to working condition. Those Zeniths are popular among collectors.

Old sets and roundies

ovrphil's profile picture
Hi Rex - I agree with you. But..

As members have shown off before, the old sets fit right below the flat screen, either on the wall or if it pleases, on top of the vintage sets. I like watching the old movies and MeTV, GetTV,and a few others here in the Atlanta area, on the older crt's but it's good to have flat screen now.

And I like your collection, Justin.

I have a Black Magnavox console very similar to the first set
you pictured. They all take TLC, but a good number of sets
can be repaired or brought back from a non-working state.
All the TV's you have are cool.

Looking forward to getting mine all back in place as I
get things done in the house. They are alot of fun.

Good Luck. Feel free to share any more sets you may
have or aquire. Take care.

Louis

Good that some collect and use older TV's . Used to-but my collection got stolen and just haven't wanted to replace it.Got mine back in the days when they were free-from trashpiles,by the side of the road,or folks would give them to you.Now with EBay and such-the freebies are disappearing. And I don't have space anymore-taken up by vacuums.Good luck with the old TV collections out there!I do have pictures adn catalogs on old TV tranmsitters that would be used to broadcast to those TV's-used to work on those, too.
