Beautiful

TOFL! I wonder if they can find the plug in griddle. That oven sure is clean after 57 years of use or non-use. I wonder what the red thing is in the center of the cooktop. Good old Aqua Mint in Westinghouse's Confection Colors. Note that it looks like it has one of those pull out cords with the female plug on the end, just like their wall-mount appliance centers or just a charred outlet. Given Westinghouse's reputation and the age of this range, I don't think I would plug it in before installing individual fuse protection for every 240 volt component, like in Canadian ranges, because something is bound to blow, overdue to blow, big time and only heaven knows what all it will take out with it. John and I plugged in a Westinghouse cooktop, turned on the surface units and one of the switches made a pop. Concurrent with the pop, all of the street lights went out and we heard the sirens from the fire department start up. We quickly unplugged it and went out to see if we had plunged any of my neighbors into darkness. You can be sure if it's Westinghouse; you just can't be sure of what.

It's a 58, btw.

If I had time off

I think I would get it just because its pretty...Westinghouses sure baked well, When they worked..LOL! I used to wonder why there was not more of them, after trying to get one working I know, beautiful , well insulated and built like a tank, but the controls, just like John told me, not so great.

Westinghouse controls

Did the problems with the controls start with a certain model year, or were they troublesome from the beginning? We never had any trouble with the switches on the '53, and the only troubles came from the speed heat unit, and the wiring from the door switch to the oven light.

I think its more

Luck than anything...Some people can drive GM cars and get great service...If I get in one you can bet something will break or fall off within 10 miles,,Now put me in a Chrysler product and im not afraid to start across country......I would LOVE to have this stove, but the last one I had seemed to know when one thing got fixed, so something else would break, the oven thermostat was the last straw, I couldn't find a replacement, the surface units were the best......after I replaced all the switches!!LOL

The control problems started with the infinite heat controls so your 53 would not have known the problems because of the 5 fixed heats.

Thanks, guys. I actually like the 5 heat settings, as I know exactly what they each are. I'm always fussing with the infinite controls on the Tappan (Frigidaire) I'm using now.

I really like the styling of this range. I wish the pics were clearer!
