Hello everybody. What can you tell me about the lg tromms versus the maytag neptunes? Both have a cool sounding motor. I noticed the lg tromm has a much deeper motor tone than the maytag neptunes. How is the cotton/normal cycle different other than the name? What can you tell me about the 2? Thank you very much.

windows

Also, LG tromms have windows where Maytag Neptunes don't.

tumble pattern

Why are the tumble patterns different? How is the tumbling pattern shorter on the Neptune than the tromm? Example: mah7500 versus wm2487 on the regular cycle? Why do the motors sound different?

motors

I think the LG might be a direct drive, while the neptunes were all belt drive-"switched reluctance" motor on early neptunes, while later versions use a 3-phase induction motor driven by an inverter in order to get variable speed and ~10,000 RPM for spin. The early neptunes such as my '98 3000 have a cool "UFO liftoff"sound as they ramp up the spin :)I haven't heard a late Neptune, but I suspect they are quieter-more like a WP duet as the duet also has inverter driven induction motor. Some LG washers have a recirculation pump that operates during wssh.

tumble sequence

Why is the tumb sequence different on both washers when set to the regular cycle?
