I have TWO working GE GSD2800 electronic control panels available. One is from model year 1984, one from 1988.
VERY nice condition cosmetically, perfect displays. One shown in photo here. Only reason I'm offering them up is that I got completely tired of messing about with problematic detergent cups on the units. Let me know if you are interested in either panel--they can be sent out with just the guts/wires OR still installed in the framework (which means heavy weight and higher shipping cost). Not exactly sure of the value on these--they are rarely available, and the last one I saw on ebay at least was over $125….my bigger concern is that someone wishing to keep their 2800 going a long time has access to what I have here. I do have other 2800 items of possible interest but need to know early-ish as I have to get the machine outta the house. It's in my living room now……! I'd prefer not to list on ebay, but will do if it is a must. |

I'm thinking this would be a neat addition to the machine I'm currently using the kitchen. If the panels could be grafted onto the mechanical control machine I currently have. What problems were you having with the dispensers? I'm guessing the trip mechanism for the det. dispenser needs to be electric since there is no timer to actuate it.

The dispenser problem isn't one of activation, but the plastic gears do not always allow the cups to fully open. I simply got tired of opening up the door liner every week to put things right. They just always jammed 1/4 to 1/2 way open and it got really tedious!
As I mention--the vac fluorescent displays are nice, and all functions on the boards work as designed. |

That's what killed my joy with the 2800s. I stick to the 1200s/1250s these days.
The 2800 used a clock motor and large gear arrangement to trip the detergent dispenser electronically. Remember the drain motor on that spin-tube we found? Déjà vu. It's a funky arrangement for preserving the functionality of the big cam that trips the dispenser mechanically on the electromechanical GEs. As the machine aged, you either got stuck cups, or on our machine, sometimes-stuck cups, but a perpetual "CUP OPEN" warning on the control panel. Sometimes the cup opened normally. If it was a good day, you bought a lottery ticket. Too many electronics turns appliances into guacamole sometimes. ;-) |

tutorial specific to GSD2800 detergent cups a long time back. Sort of a guide to getting those gears aligned properly once the door liner was removed. Coulda sworn I bookmarked it…and cannot find it now. Did I dream?? I've had that door liner off more times than I wanna mention. Much faffing about would get them working properly for awhile…but eventually back to problems again. The cup mechanism always trips as it should, but the damned cups sometimes only open 1/2 way. I'm pretty sure I managed to get something out of alignment or out of synch with all my messing. Is there a trick to setting the gearing back to what it would have been from factory?

If it was to actually resolve the issue, it was probably someone else--I posted to bitch about it :-)
I never did get mine sorted completely. It started mostly-working, after I went in and dinked around with the gear alignment once. I never went back in there again, and the cup open/closed sensor never did work properly.
A world of magnets and miracles, indeed. |
