I scored a fun vintage Kenmore washer owners manual recently at an estate sale. I just added it to the ephemera library if anyone is looking for these models...

My parents bought the one in the top of the pic. It was a lemon. the first time we used it, it filled for rinse, agitated twice and drained. we called out the repairman, he replaced the timer and it worked. My mother replaced the agi with the pregnant rotoswirl from the previous washer, as she did not like the lack of rollover from the straight vane it came with. we had it 7 years, until the motor developed a burnt spot on it, and she had to reach in and spin the belt to get it to start. We kicked it to the curb, and i gave her my Norge 20 lb, As I had moved to a apartment, and had no hookup, and it ran for another 10 years even though it was already 15 years old. what a trooper. After that, I gave them a GE I had been given used, and she had that until 84 When she bought a Maytag, that was still running 30 years later when we sold the house.

My mother ordered a ultra cheap sale model from a sale in the paper that was naturally out of stock. All she wanted is it to fill, go thru the one cycle and shut off. They delivered a model similar to the 500, minus the temp switch. One water level but 4 cycles and it was up to you to change the temps on the faucets. The Enzyme soak cycle was a waste of the timer. Had a gold straight vane and waterfall filter but sold for definitely more than she paid. In the late 60's she paid the delivery guy $120 and that included a tip.

My neighbor across the street from me as a kid had the top one (Model 600), and I used to do the wash with her. Great memories. Peteski: Your friends must have had the 1966 model. That one looked almost identical to the 67, and had 5 temperature selections. |
